From Wikipiedia:

Tom Corbett, Space Cadet is one of only six TV series to appear on all four networks of the time, along with The Arthur Murray Party, Down You Go, The Ernie Kovacs Show, Pantomime Quiz, and The Original Amateur Hour:

CBS from October 2 to December 1950
ABC from January 1951 to September 1952
NBC from July to September 1951
DuMont from August 1953 to May 1954
NBC again from December 1954 to June 1955, with the final broadcast on June 25, 1955.

Al Markim, who played Astro has died.

The only cast member still alive is Jan Merlin who played Roger Manning.

Joseph Lawrence Greene of Grosset & Dunlap developed Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, inspired by the Robert A. Heinlein novel Space Cadet (1948)[1] but based on his own prior work. Greene had submitted a radio script for "Tom Ranger" and the "Space Cadets" on January 16, 1946, but it remained unperformed when Heinlein's novel was published. Greene then reworked his radio script into a script for a daily newspaper adventure strip, which was never produced.

I may have judged this series too quickly, but after watching a few episodes on Youtube, I was not very impressed. The acting, for example, just wasn't very good.

Space Patrol sort of spoiled me. I've watched about 15 episodes, and it seems much better . . .

My family album has pictures of me wearing that helmet in the backyard of the house I lived in when I was a little kid!

And a towel as a Superman cape. I guess I was Super-Spaceman. Very Happy

The View Master set. Issued in late September of 1954.

THe scans of the text are exactly as seen on The Solar Guard site http://www.solarguard.com/ with their misspellings and running together of words and bad grammar.

There were three disks per packet with seven scenes each and three packets for a total of 21 pictures and 21 texts. The word "scene" refers to the particular picture it is associated with.

Return to Solar Academy

Another Adventure awaits!

All inspired by this great novel by the Premier Grand Master of Sci-Fi:

If you've applied for entrance into the Space Academy, I suggest you learn the academy song before you get there. Otherwise everybody will know you're just moving your lips and faking it! Shocked

You still are, Bud!

Although I guess if someone saw you running around in your yard in a towel cape and space helmet now they'd call the nice men in white coats Laughing

I'm sure I would have driven my parents crazy wanting all of the premiums (aka "junk") from the various space shows. Laughing

Alas, they were all before my time

Oh, don't be silly, Tim! I couldn't possibly run around the yard like that NOW. Shocked

I live in a townhome — so I don't have a yard! Laughing

In fact, I don't even have a carport for the two cars I own; my beloved 2001 Chevy Space Odyssey, and my . . . other one, which is a custom built job with a vanity license plate that says C-57-D. (It comes equipped with a robot chauffeur.) Mr. Green

Well, I see plenty of sidewalk out there where one could get their daily exercise!Laughing

Just remember to wear MORE than just a cape and space helmet!
