Always was impressed with the epic scope of this for a weekly TV series.

S.H.A.D.O. headquarters, a moonbase, spacecraft, submarine with a detachable front that was a jet aircraft, & so forth.

American TV shows were rarely so ambitious as UFO.

Never did warm up to the alien saucers — always looked like a toy top to me.

A saucer should have more dignity and aesthetic appeal those silly spinning things this show gave us. It was definitely the weakest link in the show's designs.

UFO was a great series but suffered with the comings and goings of it's actors and characters! Peter Gordeno was the first to leave followed by Harry Baird and eventually out went Gabrielle Drake and George Sewell! Ed Bishop and Michael billington being the only two actors in it from near start to finish with Billington coming in at the start of episode four (five production wise)

The aliens agenda was a bit mixed, originally they wanted to harvest the odd human out on a stroll in the countryside, then they sort of tried to use human beings as assassins with the SHADO organization attacking moonbase every now and then and later on they tried a few times to destroy cities on earth and later on the entire planet itself!

The late Randy Everett, a generous friend by nature, sent me DVD-R's of this entire series, all on labeled discs with box art and menus — just out of the kindness of his heart! Very Happy

About two dozen DVDs from Randy showed up in my mailbox out of a clear blue sky over a period of about five years. What a guy!

I watched most of them, but I kind of stalled out about halfway through the series and never got back to them. I'll have to resume watching them soon. They're fun! Cool

Yep they're good, Bud! But watching them in varying order only works once you're used to them! Cool

The cast turnover came because they had to halt production for a while. They had to change studios when the British MGM Studio closed. They had to find another studio, and by the time they did that, some of the actors had moved onto other projects.

Knowing Randy as I do, I'm sure he arranged the episodes on the DVD-Rs he made for me (actually, burned Blu-rays) in the right order.

He always acquired high quality originals of the shows he made copies of, and then he made sure his copes were perfect in every way. He even sent me a Blu-ray copy of Forbidden Planet that was made from an HD-DVD version, instead of from a Blu-ray, because he maintained that the HD version was better than Blu-ray!

I couldn't tell the difference, so I sent it to Bulldogtrekker without telling Randy.
Very Happy

UFO was one of those rare genre series that appeared in those post STAR TREK years. As such it was still greatly appreciated by those of us thirsting for more sci-fi on television.

The show may have had it's faults...but those Moon base babes were enough to make me want to sign up!

Antonia Ellis and Gabrielle Drake were easy on the eyes and some of the guest actresses too, like Jane Merrow! Razz

Gerry Anderson's logo at the beginning is well designed. Very Happy

I'm not too crazy about the jazzy title theme. Guess I'm just not "rad" enough. Rolling Eyes

And it's odd that during the whole minute and twenty second opening, with its rapid montage of scenes, we never see any credits!

There are two episodes without any titles too! Confetti Check A-OK? and The Psychobombs!

The names of the lead actors and guest artists always came after the credits had passed for some odd reasoning!

This 5 minute video is composed of short "home movies" from fan events which featured cast members. It's actually pretty interesting for fans of the series.

Very good series. They should try to finish off the story, preferably using similar set design, etc. Do the same for Sapphire and Steel, Space: 1999, and probably even Doomwatch (at least redo the missing episodes).

________________________________

I have some random thoughts on the idea of continuing various series that were interrupted before they're story arcs were completed. There are several possible problems with doing that kind of thing.

When a sci-fi series airs during a certain cultural era, such as the 1980s, it's look is largely determined by things like the film techniques and special effects methods of the day. Also, the audience is familiar with the look and flavor of the shows during that period, because it reflects the culture of that time.

Several decades later, things have changed quite a lot. Television series have a whole new look which reflects a whole new culture.

And the audience . . . has gotten several decades older.

So, to continue a show from the past can prove very difficult to sell to the public. Remember, we're talking about trying to match the "new" to the "old" — as opposed to a reboot which presents similar concepts to the original, but tells the stories in a very dissimilar way because of the changing culture.

Part of the problem is that making the new episodes look like the old ones is sort of artificial, because the look of the original episodes was, in part, the result of certain cinematic limitations — such as the need for miniatures, not to mention the way said miniatures sometimes don't look very convincing.

If limitations like that no longer exist, mimicking the old look is a bit phony.

But perhaps even more daunting is the inescapable fact that the adoring and less-critical audience who loved the show in their youth aren't actually around any more. Their much older, and despite their nostalgic feelings, most of them just won't be able to enjoy the show the same way they did several decades earlier.

And then there's the sad fact that the young people who ARE the same age as the original fans are accustomed to a very different look and feel to the shows they watch. They can't really appreciate the original show the way its older fans do.

What I'm suggestion is that trying to complete TV series that ended their run because of cancellation becomes more and more difficult as time goes by.

True Bud, time & taste change as the years go by.

However, sometimes it is the right time to reboot an old sci~fi TV series.

Look at Battlestar Galactica. The original had lavish production values but very pedestrian stories.

The revived iteration was sensational, vastly superior to the 70s version in almost every way.

FOX aired a pilot of a reboot of The Time Tunnel which showed more imagination and greater promise than the 1966 series.

So, reboots can be done & be done very well. Maybe not in every case but clearly in some.
