I'd like to extend a special thanks to CinemaBill for sharing Forbidden Planet on TCM in the Kiwiirc chat room today! We had a blast! And here's that picture I mentioned, enhanced a bit with Paint.net by yours truly.

Let's do it again soon, Bill! Very Happy

I just love some screen captures! This one shows what appears to be Doc Ostrow's shadow on the pedestal:

So I wonder where the sun (Altair) is supposed to be? Also what do you make of the distorted reflections on the back of Robby's head?

Rather than a shadow, I would say that it's Ostrow's reflection in the dull metal surface of the pedestal.

________________________________

Seems to me that's just the shadows of the two men standing three feet from of the pedestal — NOT the shadow or the reflection of Doc, standing 30 feet away between to other men.

In another shot, we see two men standing close to each other, and the shadows overlap. Obviously there was more than one light source on the far left, causing two overlapping shadows.

And when the three men walk off to the left a moment later, the shadow doesn't move, indicating that it's being cast by the man near the pedestal.

By gum, you're right!

Once I started looking at the pictures and wondering about the light sources (Were there lights on the sides of the set? Weird! Shocked), I started having fun analyzing the problem.

And we all know by now that there is no aspect of Forbidden Planet too small for me to obsess over.
Very Happy

Same with me and Eadie!

Sometimes the obsession comes from a "What were they thinking?" moment, as on the old board when Eadie spotted a cut-out used at the base of the pedestal which then disappeared.

Eadie is doing fine, by-the-way. She is finishing grade 8. She is an A+ student; very personable — in fact a sort of good luck charm in when she attends games, the school ALWAYS wins! (One opposing teem "kidnapped" her for the first quarter of a basketball game. Arlington High School was losing. Eadie "escaped" Then AHS won!)

Boy, that doesn't surprise me one bit! Very Happy

Eadie is our good luck charm here at All Sci-Fi, too. She generated more discussions than anybody else (even me!), and she always had new and interesting things to say.

That experience she had at the basketball game would work well in a youth oriented movie or TV series about kids at school. Pass that on to your Hollywood connections, Butch! They'll love it!

And get Eadie an agent before they call her about starring in it! Very Happy

I've been waiting to repost my Forbidden Planet CAD drawings since All Sci-Fi's resurrection to make sure the rebirth was going to be permanent. I guess it's pretty safe by now. Rolling Eyes (Warning to Bud: This action on my part may be another death knell. And that's "knell", not "Krell".) So here goes nuthin'...

First, the quad cannon.

The power core and hyper drive.

Here's the core in place in the drive unit.

The rails for moving the core, and that "disc light" that stood alongside the rails.

My drawings are free for the taking. (Any copyright claims may be ignored.) I have no aspirations for income from them. I just hope somebody might find them useful.

Crewman Green; Here are some that I did.

Some are just studies on variations that must be made to make it able for Robby to move around the complex. Others are scans from the Cinefantastique double issue. All are based upon original studio blueprints that I have.

The "arch":

The shuttle car entrance:

Shaft bridge entrance:

Entrance to power unit:

Comparison:

C-57-D lifts to second level:

________________________

The Residence:

C-57-D main level:

Tunnel and Krell lab:

Recreation of the "beamer" by John Rigg (SFX maker):

The shape is wrong. Instead of a sphere it was ovoid (even-ended egg shape).

The artist is John Brosio; I don't know his title so I just call it "Fresh Milk".
