IrfanView sounds great, but I've become so proficient with Paint.net that I think I'll stick with it.

Add to that the fact that there are so many functions of Paint.net I haven't even explored yet, so I look forward to learning new tricks from this amazing FREE program! Very Happy

It's obvious that we all have several good options we can use to modify and enhance our jpegs before we upload them to Imgur. I just wish our friend Butch would explore them and stop post giant images which I have reduce for him on All Sci-Fi.

It seems to me that Imgur's Auto resize setting must be re-selected each time you open Imgur to load more images. When I re-open a folder I know I've set previously to Auto-resize to 640px wide, I find that the Auto-resize setting has reverted to "None". I think the resizing works if you make sure to select the setting each time you load images.

There is a very good free bulk photo resizer called FastStone Photo Resizer. It can resize, rotate, crop, watermark, add borders, compress, convert formats, and a bunch of other stuff on individual images or a whole folder full of them.

http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm

FastStone also makes a good free image editor, converter, and viewer called FastStone Image Viewer, available at
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm
I much prefer this program to IrfanView.

FROM : STARLOG 351

I just realized that I had already posted this in September of last year!

But I think I'll leave it here as a "second look!

(besides, it looks like one of the pages in the old post is missing....So here it is again...complete and hosted by Imger, so it may stay for a while!)

That picture of an id-like Dr, Morbius was posted by me along with several variations on the old board. As soon as I find them I will re-post them.

This was also posted on the very old ASF board. But I now know the artist and his title for it. An Ancient Krell WarBot, by Shigeru Komatzusaki! Done as a private commission.

I was browsing through Deviant Art and I accidentally came across this (the original is extremely large and is at the st the Forbidden Planet folder on Imgur):

The text is hard to read, so here it is by itself:

________________________________

I discovered that the reason the September 16th post by Gord with the Starlog article above had a page missing was because the images were on Hostpic, and those guys delete images after about two years! Shocked

I repaired the damage that Hostpic did to Gord's earlier post by replacing the Hostpic images with 700-pixel-wide Imgur jpegs which included the links to 2000-pixel-wide versions.

Once I'd done all that, I knew Gord would appreciate having the "super-sized" versions of the jpegs included in his new version of the Starlog article above, so I made that adjustment as well. Very Happy

While preparing the jpegs, I noticed something amusing about the photos in the article. The editors of Starlog modified several of the pictures in the article by literally "drawing in details" to make some of the photos appear sharper.

Here's one example. The shadows of the collars on Adams' and Ostrow's shirts have been darkened with a black pen, and the features of Chief Quinn's face have literally been hand-drawn.

Many of the other photos have black lines and black shapes drawn onto the photos, often in unexpected places and for unknown reasons!

But in the case of the two other examples below, it's obvious that some of the scribbled lines and shapes were added to give the photos more contrast and to bring out details. However, these markings are so small that they go unnoticed unless you really study each photo carefully. Very Happy

I think the resizing works if you make sure to select the setting each time you load images.

I tested your theory and discovered that the "Auto resize" only works when you upload images to the "Image" page (where the "Auto resize" option is located).

I selected 640X480 and then uploaded a 1,000 pixel-wide image directly to the Image page using the green Add Images button in the upper right corner.

The image was successfully resized to 640X480.

But when I went to an album and uploaded the same image, it was NOT resized, and when I went back to the Image page, the "Auto resize" selection was back to None again.

I've yet to figure out how the Add To Album feature works (located just above the "Auto resize" button). I can select an image and cause the green check mark to appear on the thumbnail, but when I select an album to move it to, nothing happens! Shocked

Okay, thanks. But do you happen to know which stage had the landing site?

Stage 15 had the planet exterior with the landing site, ship's star ramp etc. (See article above....first page.)

The landing scene was a model with a different painted backdrop. This was on outside LOT 3 which was large enough for the painted cyclorama and the large 15' C-57-D .

The landing scene was filmed outdoors, so it was probably filmed in the water tank. It has a large angled wall where backdrops could be attached.

Gord Green, was the wooded are that was suppose to be by C-57-D also filmed on stage 15?

David.

15 had the exterior C-57-D set with the curved panoramic drop behind it. It included the landing gear area and near ship scenes.

The wooded area nearby (shown when Robby interacted with the cook for "Rocket Bourbon) looks like it's on a different stage. Since stages 20 to 30 were used (the residence exterior was on stage 23 for example) another set may have been used.

Johnnybear, this is for you:

I found the perfect example showing the difference between the original CinemaScope™ of the early 1950s and CinemaScope 55™ which Forbidden Planet was filmed in:

Notice how I cleverly lined-up the klystron transmitter so you can see the difference (our Criterion disk shows this)!

Does anyone have this magazine? Ours is damaged.

This issue is the second of the Just Imagine Jeanie stories and takes place on Altair IV when Alta is about 6-years-old!
