On 11 February 2016, the LIGO, Virgo and GEO600 collaborations announced the first detection of gravitational waves, a breakthrough discovery after two centuries of expectation.

Behold! The Face of God!

And frankly . . . He looks pissed . . . Shocked

* I did NOT modify this screen shot from the video, other than to brighten it a little! Spooky, huh?

Watch this other video below about the discovery of gravity waves, if for no other reason than to see this futuristic newsroom!

And now that they've proven the existence of gravity waves, I guess those Doubting Thomas' who don't believe this guy can surf in space will be silenced, eh?

* But I DID modify this picture of the Silver Surfer. It started out like the one below, and I didn't like how narrow it was, so I expanded it with Microsoft Paint. Very Happy

According to a pair of scientist-friends of mine (one a physicist, the other an astronomer), this is HUGE news, much bigger than the discovery of the Higgs Boson.

To put things in perspective, the discovery of the Higgs was like finishing a jigsaw puzzle: you not only know what your final piece looks like and where it fits, but what the whole picture looks like before you even fit it in.

This discovery is like an entire new jigsaw puzzle, and scientists just can't get wait to get to work on it. Here's a good explanation of how it was done.

Thank you, Andrew.

That is one of the best explanations that I have read!

This YouTube video isn't about gravity waves, but it is about creating artificial gravity with the centrifugal force of a rotating circular structure, like the Wernher Von Braun space stations.
