TV series of British/German origin, and set in the "present" Earth of the 1970s. A planet from another solar system drifts into Earth's system and is detected by some Earth scientists who investigate.

The surface of this planet is no longer habitable and the residents have moved to a high-tech underground city. The society is ruled by the women, who of course, are all beautiful.

Men are considered mentally inferior and are divided into two categories: the "adequately intelligent" who are selected by women to act as their personal "domestics" for household chores, and the remainder who are forced to perform menial labor under the supervision of female guards.

The guards are attired nicely in visored helmets, boots, hot pants, and elbow-length gloves which are used to control the men through some sort of apparent force.

Scientists from Earth (one man and one woman) find their way to the planet, and are forced to take their stated places in society. The man is chosen as a domestic, ...

Hot Tamale! This show looks terrific! And it's yet another one I've never watched.

I can't find any downloadable episodes other than the one on YouTube at the link above, and the DVD set is $66.00 on Amazon — a bit more than I'm willing to shell out of a series I know nothing about.

However, I found some great pictures which illustrate the colorful sets and special effects.

Behold!

I watched this in syndication in 1982. The cast is remarkable!

Judy Geeson as Supreme Councillor Fulvia (She was in To Sir, With Love

Lisa Harrow as Dr Liz Becker (She was in All Creatures Great And Small)

Pierre Brice as Adam (He's a singer, an actor and a real-life French aristocrat — Pierre-Louis, Baron de Bris)

Gareth Thomas as Shem (He played Roj Blake in Blake's 7)

Christian Quadflieg as Dr Rudi Schmidt (A major Swedish star at the time)

Christiane Kr??ger as Supreme Councillor Octavia (A german actress who is the daughter of Hardy Kr??ger [Hatari!]. She was in the espionage movie The Internecine Project)

Derek Farr as Professor Evans (Group Captain John Whitworth in The Dam Busters)

Dawn Addams as Clara (She was in a LOT of Hammer films)

There were only 13 episodes.

It looks as if it was a pretty big deal at the time, with plenty of merchandising. As titles go, "Star Maidens" is a lot catchier than the German "Die Madchen aus dem Weltraum" for sure. And there was even a novelisation, it seems:
