One or two things you can depend on, at least... It'll pollute the environment and destabilize the ecosystem.

And what, you may ask, was wrong with the old kind of ice?

Apparently nothing, but this process has something to do with . . . well, doing this:

Quote:
The team of scientists say that if they can figure out how to replace energy-rich methane trapped in the huge amounts of clathrates on the ocean floor with carbon dioxide, then they could harvest energy from the ocean.

"In other words, we could pump CO2 down to the ocean floor as a replacement for the methane in the gas hydrates. The challenges involved would naturally be large and the feasibility has been called into question, but it remains an extremely intriguing possibility worth exploring."

Ah-ha! Energy. Got it. And the "new ice" somehow makes it possible to get the methane out of the deep ocean water.

So, which movie could we relate this clever idea to? Why this one, of course. The one with the miniskirts! Very Happy

In this 1971 TV movie, America's gold reserve is being transferred to the City Beneath the Sea from Fort Knox, along with a shipment of H-128, a super-nuclear material that's not only radioactive but explosive.

(Explosive? Never mind. It's Irwin Allen Science, get it?)

These guys could have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they'd known they were surrounded by an almost inexhaustible supply of natural gas!

Larry Niven once did a semi-humerous (about your funny bone as opposed to humorous which is just plain funny) about the real (or is that reel?) use of the super-dense use of the material ice-IV:

The bone structure of a certain Kryptonian!
