It looks as if we are all correct — and incorrect at the same time!

Harrison Ford Says Indiana Jones Dies With Him (Sorry, Chris Pratt)

https://www.slashfilm.com/new-indiana-jones-actor/

Posted on Friday, May 24th, 2019 by Chris Evangelista

Harrison Ford is about to make what will probably be his final Indiana Jones film. But don’t think for a second that means that someone else will take over the role — not as far as Ford is concerned, at least. According to the hilariously curmudgeonly actor, the role of Indiana Jones dies with him, and that’s final. Ford also spoke a bit about his late STAR WARS co-star Peter Mayhew, who died in April.

Harrison Ford is often accused of being grumpy, and while that might be accurate, he’s also pretty damn funny. Case in point: the clip has Ford appearing on the Today Show to promote The Secret Life of Pets 2, in which he voices a dog. During the course of the interview, the actor is asked what will become of Indiana Jones when Ford is done playing the part. Specifically: which actor would Ford like to see take over the role.

“Nobody is gonna be Indiana Jones,” Ford replies dryly. “Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone.”

Ford will soon shoot his fifth and presumably final Indiana Jones film with director Steven Spielberg. In the past, Spielberg said: “This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that.” But as far as Ford is concerned, that ain’t happening. Of course, the actor doesn’t have the final say, and producers could always decide to reboot things. At one point, there was even a rumor was swirling that the franchise might get a reboot with Chris Pratt taking over the role.

Personally, I would like the part to die with Ford. Indiana Jones isn’t like James Bond, or Batman. The character feels like he belongs so entirely to Ford that having anyone else play him would just feel wrong.

Elsewhere in the world of Harrison Ford interviews, the actor appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, and offered some kind words about Peter Mayhew, the actor who played Ford’s STAR WARS copilot Chewbacca, and who died late last month. “He was a really sweet man, nice man, and he had a hard time physically,” Ford said. “It was really hard for him to do what he did for us — what he did for all of us.” Mayhew, who stood over 7 feet tall, suffered from Marfan Syndrome.

You can watch Ford talking about Mayhew at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0DQrmzAK7g

where he also reacts to Mark Hamill's Impression of him. Last night was the 35th anniversary of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Indiana Jones 5 Will Start Shooting Next Year Says Ford

The further adventures of Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr.

https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/1072755-harrison-ford-believes-indiana-jones-5-will-start-shooting-next-year

Ready or not, Indiana Jones is returning to the big screen sooner rather than later. At least according to Harrison Ford who revealed to Variety during the premiere of The Secret Life of Pets 2, that Indy’s next adventure will start shooting “sometime next year.” This jives with the current July 9, 2021 release date set by Disney.

As noted in the trade, Ford was in attendance for The Secret Life of Pets 2 premiere in which he plays Rooster, who takes Max (voiced by Patton Oswalt) under his wing. During the event Ford was asked about Indiana Jones 5 to which the actor responded enthusiastically, that it “should be starting to shoot sometime next year” and that he was “looking forward to it” and that “things are coming along well.”

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

Director Steven Spielberg previously promised one big thing for the fifth installment, while Bob Iger — Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm’s parent company Disney — has said that Indiana Jones 5 won’t be the last film.

The introduction of Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull led to speculation that LaBeouf will take over the franchise from Ford. In an interview with IGN, "Spielberg indicated that LaBeouf has to make multiple Transformers movies before he can move over and take on the fedora and bullwhip of Indiana Jones." The actor himself said, "Am I into it? Who wouldn't be? I don't think that's reality. It's a fun rumor." Ford said he would return for a fifth film if it does not take another twenty years to develop, while Spielberg responded it would happen "only if you [the audience] want more". In an interview with Time, when asked about passing the fedora to LaBeouf in the next film, Ford said, "What are you talking about? It's mine. I would love to do another Indiana Jones movie. George Lucas is working on an idea now. Shia can get his own hat. I earned that hat."

At the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, Lucas made a further suggestion that there would be a fifth film, revealing an idea "to make Shia LaBeouf the lead character next time and have Harrison Ford come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie." At the time Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was filmed, Connery was only 58 years old. Lucas also said that age need not be a factor, as Ford was "65 and did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it's not like he's an old man. He's incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me."

In August 2008, Lucas was researching potential plot devices, and stated Spielberg was open to the idea of the fifth film. He also changed his mind about continuing the series with a spin-off, joking "Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. If it was Mutt Williams it would be Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis or something." Two months later, Ford stated that he would not return if the fifth film was an animated film like STAR WARS: The Clone Wars, because "I'd hate to see it reduced in any way from the movies that we have done and the way we have done them." He also called Lucas' concept for the fifth film "crazy but great".

The possibility of Indiana Jones 5 continued to be discussed through 2009 and 2010. Reports speculated in June 2009 that the next installment would start filming in 2011 with a plot involving the Bermuda Triangle, although these rumors were later described as "completely false" by Frank Marshall on his Twitter page. Speaking to BBC journalist Lizo Mzimba in June 2009, LaBeouf confirmed that "Steven [Spielberg] just said that he cracked the story on it [the fifth film], I think they're gearing that up.

Lucas stated he was working on the film as of December 2009. In November 2010, Ford said that he and Spielberg were waiting for Lucas to present an idea to them. In March 2011, the Deadbolt website interviewed Karen Allen and asked her about the fifth film's status. "What I know is that there's a story that they like", said Allen, "which is a huge step forward. I heard this about six months ago, that they have a story that they like and they're working on it."

In July 2012, Frank Marshall indicated that the film was unlikely to be announced in the near future, saying: "I don't know if it's definitely not happening, but it's not up and running … It's not on until there is a writer on the project. There is no writer on Indy."

In October 2012, The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm, thereby granting Disney ownership rights to the Indiana Jones intellectual property. However, Paramount Pictures continued to own distribution rights for the film series. In December 2013, Walt Disney Studios purchased the distribution and marketing rights to future Indiana Jones films, with Paramount retaining the distribution rights to the first four films, and receiving "financial participation" from any additional films. Although a new film installment was not announced with the deal, Disney CEO Bob Iger has expressed an interest in monetizing the franchise across Disney's various company divisions. Studio chairman Alan Horn has said that a fifth Indiana Jones film would not be ready for at least two to three years.

In early 2015, it was reported that Steven Spielberg wanted to direct an Indiana Jones reboot with Chris Pratt as the titular character, whose previous actor Harrison Ford said that he should be the only actor to play the character in film until he dies and will not be involved in a film where his role is recast despite encouraging the death of the Han Solo character that he played in STAR WARS and approving the performance of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in Solo: A STAR WARS Story, while Pratt said that he would be interested in playing Indiana Jones, although reluctantly since he doesn't want to take the responsibility of bombing the franchise.

In a May 2015 interview with Vanity Fair, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed plans for a fifth film, stating another film "will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I'm not quite sure. We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it."

On March 15, 2016, Walt Disney Studios announced that the fifth film would be released on July 19, 2019, with Ford reprising his role, Spielberg directing, Koepp writing and Kennedy and Marshall acting as producers. George Lucas was initially not going to be involved with the film. However, during a press event for Disney's The BFG, Spielberg confirmed that Lucas will be returning as executive producer, stating "I would never make an Indiana Jones film without George Lucas. That'd be insane." Spielberg also announced that John Williams will be returning to compose the score.

On April 25, 2017, the official Star Wars website updated the film's release date to July 10, 2020. In mid-January 2018, Deadline Hollywood reported that Spielberg is eyeing the fifth Indiana Jones film as his next project following the completion of Ready Player One, which was released two months later. According to Variety, the film was to begin principal photography at the start of 2019. In March 2018, it was confirmed by Spielberg that filming would commence in April 2019 in the United Kingdom.

In the wake of the horror film A Quiet Place in early 2018, Lucasfilm approached its screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods to discuss the Indiana Jones and Star Wars franchises. In what Beck described as an "open canvas talk", they were "ruminating on if [they] did an Indiana Jones movie, what would [they] want to see in Indiana Jones". He stated that it "started going down the line a little bit" but that he and Woods were more interested in creating original ideas and establishing a new franchise which they also considered an obligation for Lucasfilm.

In June 2018, eventually, news was received that Jonathan Kasdan had replaced Koepp as scriptwriter, and that the film would miss its mid-2020 release date. Shortly thereafter, Disney postponed the film's release date to July 9, 2021 Following up on this, Marshall soon said that he was in the process of assembling something like a writers' room, commenting: "a lot of people that we trust pitch ideas and things. Gathering info."

In May 2019, it was reported that Kasdan had written his script from scratch, but that his work was now being replaced by Dan Fogelman whose screenplay used "an entirely different premise". Two months later, Ford mentioned that the film "should be starting to shoot sometime next year". Later reports narrowed the beginning of filming down to April 2020, suggesting principal photography to take place at the Iver-based Pinewood Studios.

Speaking in September 2019, Koepp said that he was working on Indiana Jones 5 again, that they were "still trying" and that they had "got a good idea this time".

When asked how being married to Marion Ravenwood and having a son would affect the character in a fifth film, Ford only replied: "He's seen something. Remember those are the only witnesses to what he's seen. That's kind of interesting." Ford later said, "I think it would be interesting to advance the understanding of the character, as we always have had that ambition throughout the series. I think it would be interesting to deepen the relationship between him and his son and play on that relationship … It's full of opportunity. The series is full of opportunity."

However, Koepp later stated that Mutt Williams would not return in the movie. Marshall stated that the film would be a continuation of the events following Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Both Spielberg and Iger discussed the fifth film, with Spielberg stating that Indiana Jones would not be killed off. However, Iger said the future of the franchise with Ford is unknown, but that the fifth film "won't be just a one-off".

Some sources indicate that Kasdan's script revolves around the Wałbrzych Nazi gold train as the MacGuffin, while others say that Kasdan is no longer involved and that his idea for the MacGuffin will not be used.

The current release date is July 9, 2021.

I wonder if there will be any references to The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? (ABC March 4, 1992 –

Whoops! Indiana Jones 5 Delayed a Year to 2022

https://collider.com/indiana-jones-5-delayed-new-release-date/

Disney confirmed a massive re-shuffling of its major upcoming titles due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the much-delayed untitled Indiana Jones 5 got caught in the mess. The film, which was previously dated for July 9, 2021, has been moved to July 29, 2022.

This is just the latest hiccup in what’s been a wild ride getting Indiana Jones back on the screen, a process that’s been happening on and off (and on and off again) pretty much since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debuted in 2008. Just this February, the franchise made a massive shift when it was announced James Mangold would take over directing duties from Steven Spielberg, marking the first time anyone other than the Raiders of the Lost Ark filmmaker would helm an Indy feature. Harrison Ford is still set to reprise the lead role, and according to the actor, production was scheduled to start right around now.

Assuming this movie ever makes it to the screen — and despite all the obstacles and the fact Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is an unholy abomination better left unmentioned, I still want it to happen — plot details are still few and far between. Back in February, the most Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy would offer is that “it’s not a reboot, it’s a continuation.”

For more on Disney’s completely new slate, here are the new release dates for Dwayne Johnson‘s Jungle Cruise and Ryan Reynolds‘ Free Guy, along with all the upcoming MCU films including Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Frank Marshall Updates Us on Script, Praises New Director James Mangold

https://collider.com/indiana-jones-5-update-script-james-mangold-frank-marshall/

For the past 40 years, Indiana Jones has been an absolute icon of the silver screen. Over four films, we’ve seen Harrison Ford go on all kinds of globe-trotting adventures as a hat-wearing, whip-wielding, snake-hating professor who just wants artifacts to stay in their damn museums. And now, thanks to our own Christina Radish’s exclusive interview with producer Frank Marshall (a formative creative voice in all four Indy films) for the upcoming documentary Laurel Canyon, we have an update on how Indiana Jones 5 is going.

Currently scheduled to be released by Disney in 2022, Indiana Jones 5 originally had Steven Spielberg returning to direct Ford. Since then, we’ve learned that Spielberg has stepped away to allow James Mangold (Logan) to take over directorial duties, the first time anyone other than Spielberg has directed an Indy film. Marshall explained why Mangold was the ideal choice to take over for Spielberg: “His love of the franchise. He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.” I must agree with Mr. Marshall — I think Mangold is an expert at twisting old-fashioned genres and tropes with just enough postmodern intrigue to result in comforting yet challenging Hollywood movies. And for those who are still worried about Spielberg’s exit, fear not: “Steven is staying on as a producer, so we’ve got the best of everything.”

How is the writing process of Indiana Jones 5 going, though? Marshall, somewhat surprisingly, put it simply: “It just started.” I know there’s been a lot of delays on the film’s production and release dates, but I still would’ve thought Marshall and his crew would’ve began scripting some time ago. Perhaps this is an indication that Mangold is taking things in a new creative direction. Perhaps Disney didn’t want to start anything until the coronavirus of it all felt more stable. Or, perhaps, they greenlit everything without a script and are just now getting to it. Either way, don’t expect production on Indiana Jones 5 to begin anytime soon, especially as it relates to the coronavirus:

"The number one thing, obviously, is the safety of everybody — the cast, the crew, and all of us. So, we’re looking at the guidelines that are coming slowly, from the health experts and the studios and the different parts of the business, and we’re just trying to incorporate everything, so we can move forward and be safe. It’s going to obviously slow things down, so we’re trying to adjust. You won’t see a lot of big crowd scenes, for example, for awhile. There won’t be any more craft service, so maybe that’ll be good for people, in keeping more fit. It’s a moving target right now. There are a lot of people working on the solutions, to be able to work and be safe."

Marshall also revealed that he’s looking to restart another franchise about a globe-trotting American agent: Bourne, baby. Matt Damon starred in four films as the amnesiac spy Jason Bourne, who slowly learns what’s going on around him, and how good he is at punching people. They tried to soft reboot away from Damon already with the Jeremy Renner-starring The Bourne Legacy. Now, Marshall is keen on it again, with different creative teams than the original: “I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking.”

Great post, Miss Eadie!

While reading the article above I remembered who much I enjoyed the performance by Sean Connery as the elder Mr. Jones in The Last Crusade.

So, if this new movie can present an aging Indiana Jones who is less energetic — but much wiser for the wear, the way Sean Connery's character was — then this new production might be great!

Naturally the film will need a younger companion to do all the "heavy lifting", and the obvious choice would be Indy's son, who was played by Shia LaBeouf in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

No, I didn't like him all that much either — but he might be able to pull it off with the right script, the right director . . . and a miracle.

So, let's hope this movie can work a bit of Movie Magic! Very Happy

Indiana Jones and the Diaper of Depends

Indiana Jones and the Bones of Osteoporosis

Indiana Jones and the Blue Pill

I hope this new one is good so the series can go out on a high note, since they insisted on making another "last one" after Last Crusade. Not holding my breath with Disney at the helm.
