Wait a minute . . .

You mean you know a lady who loves sci-fi and enjoys concocting wild ideas just for the fun of it?

And you she MARRIED you!! Shocked

Geez, some guys have all the luck! (Dammit).

Auriette was the Director of Fan Relations at the SciFi Channel before they were a big thing. She traveled around to cons and (successfully) ran petition campaigns to get the cable companies to pick them up. We met at a con in Chicago and got married six months later Shocked She left when USA Network bought them out and moved the offices from Boca Raton, FL to NYC, where I would never have survived (asthma). It was a different beast to what Si-Fee (as she calls it) turned into.

Yeah, I tell her she really won the lottery in the deal until my warranty ran out Laughing. 30 years married this year. Feels like 300 Wink

Holly Molly in the Mornin'! Shocked

Your wonderful wife actually worked for the REAL Sci-Fi Channel when they showed REAL science fiction?

Heck, I had to wait several years for my cable provider to finally get the Sci-Fi Channel, but by the time they did, it was already beginning to change. I was so eager to get it that I would make up advertising blurbs I thought they should use.

Like this one.

The Sci-Fi Channel — The only place on Earth . . . that can take you anywhere in the universe!

Please tell Auriette that I'm just one of many fans who appreciate what she did . . . and who regret that the Sci-Fi Channel let her down. Sad

I hope you and she will take a look at the science fiction novel I published (available on Amazon). A few years later I posted the full novel here on All Sci-Fi.

The Wishbone Express - Chapter 1

Please note: The illustrations for the first few chapters are simply "borrowed" jpegs that fit the story. But a after a few chapters I started creating original images that combined various photo elements, with additional details "painted" in with Microsoft Paint and Paint.net.

She assumed that she would be the last person that USA would have wanted to retain after the purchase, but when she spoke to a former co-worker there later, it turned out she was litterally the ONLY one USA wanted Shocked

But, as I said, I would have never survived the NY pollution, and after seeing how bad she was during ONE mild Missouri winter, it clearly wasn't meant to be. Laughing

What the channel became was embarrassing to her, but the founders were only ever about the $$ anyway (start a business with the sole intention of selling). Once they added "wrasslin'" and then changed the name, she stopped caring.

Thanks, we'll check your work out.

Auriette currently works as a local TV news producer but did a lot of writing and theatre pre-pandemic. If I can locate it, I'll post a link to a video of a 50s-60s SF-inspired short play she wrote.

I'm tingling with anticipation! Very Happy

I'm also green with envy. I've been married twice (the first time for a year, the second time for a quarter-of-a-century), and neither of them had much interest in science fiction.

But by God, they were both gorgeous!

Here's an oil painting I did of my second wife, early in the relationship. (Obviously I'm a sucker for pretty face.) Rolling Eyes

___________

However, she was a great model, and I did several paintings and drawings of her. But towards the end of the marriage I did this drawing — which turned out to be a good representation of how unhappy our relationship had become. Confused

I saw those in your gallery; hubba-hubba!

We don't have the problem a lot of so-called "fan marriages" have (or had back in the day) of a spouse that "tolerates" the other's interests, we always had similar interests and goals. My problem is the sheer amount of SW stuff now. She has a 900 square foot room (with 9.5ft ceilings) for her SW collection and it still leaked into every room of the house! Makes my home renovation/restoration very challenging.

Okay, buddy, it's time to get out your camera and PROVE these outrages claims by presenting a plethera of pictures portraying that panoramic Star Wars collection! Shocked

We demanded proof from Mach7 when he claimed he had a wealth of wonders from other worlds, and he blew the jury away with the evidence he presented in the post at this link.

http://www.allsci-fi.com/viewtopic.php?p=40682&highlight=#40682

So, don't be stingy! Sad

We're eager to be green with envy when we see a few samples of The Lindsey Star Wars Museum!

Okay, Bud, I don't have time to upload pictures of all of Auriette's SW crap (plus the room is under renovation and a mess), but here is one example of the nightmare I live with! Laughing

Ha! what a nerd!

I used my reversible shop vac to inflate (and deflate) it...although I probably should have made her blow it up and told everyone that she blew Darth Vader Laughing

Let's Create a Sequel!
__________________________________________________

~ A Question for the Members: What would the sequel suggested by Tim be like?

~ Here's what I came up with.:Tim I love your ideas for a sequel, especially the inclusion of original characters, even though most of them would have to be recast at this point.

The exception is Sandy Drescher, who is now 77 years old and could play the entomologist you suggested, the one inspired by her experience as a little girl. She could, of course, also have a brilliant and beautiful granddaughter who became an entomologist as well.

They could become involved in the investigation of a new species of the mutated ants, a version whose insect instincts have begun to resemble a disturbingly high level of intelligence.

The underground hive they've constructed in the desert has become so large and complex that it contains millions of the giant ants. The sheer number of these creatures, coupled with their strange new "hive intellect", makes them unpredictable and extremely dangerous!

What do you think, Tim?

Not to derail the discussion on a sequel.

But, I have a personal story of the power of memory and sound.

Last summer/fall nearby my house was some construction.
It was behind some trees and periodically I could hear a sound that just made me feel very uneasy and nervous. I could not figure out why. After a few days I figured out what it was.

It was the sound the ants made!

It went straight to my hind brain and signaled DANGER!

You know...I think that "Ant squeek" sound effect is what really sold the movie!

Yes, I think it's a film ready for a remake! However, the original cast could never be repeated by todays crop of actors!

There are some examples of colorized improvements on Youtube, What do you think? Would you like to see an augmented version of THEM???
