David Janssen plays Harry Walker, a former WWII fighter pilot tuned radio station helicopter traffic pilot, flying a Hughes 500 in Salt Lake City. One day he observes a bank robbery with a hostage. He follows the robbers, and they switch from a car to an A??rospatiale SA 315B Lama helicopter. Harry gives chase, with spectacular flying scenes, including the two helicopters facing off inside of a hanger. And it was all done with real helicopers!

I haven't seen the TVM since it was first shown, but it made a BIG impression on me.

David.

Brother, you are not kiddin'! In the first few minutes of this 20-minute clip from Birds of Prey, David Jansen's helicopter doesn't just track the gettaway car from the air, he follows it closer than the pursuing police car!

In fact, twice in a 30 second span, when the robbers' car goes under a bridge, Jansen flies under the bridge too!

I have got to download this and watch it. Thanks for reminding us about this amazing movie. YouTube does have the full movie, but the picture is pretty dark, so I think I'll keep looking for a better version

David Janssen was a fascinating guy. He was a fantastic actor but I was always struck by the fact that he looked much older than his real age and he was cast in older parts.

Janssen was born 1931 and the AVG (Flying Tigers) was formed in 1941 so casting him as a former WWII pilot was a stretch. But he was a guy who looked perpetually middle-aged. It's almost impossible to believe that he was only 48 years old when he died in 1980.

He died when he was 48 years old? Jeez, that's 25 years younger than I am now! That's really tragic. Sad
