While watching the Flash Gordon serials recently I noticed that the "double scream" we hear whenever characters fall down into a pit in several chapters sounded remarkably like the screams of The Giant Claw!

Today I found this trivia item on the IMDB listing for Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe! Cool

~ The sound of screaming when victims fell off cliffs or into deadly pits was used as the scream for the flying monster in 'The Giant Claw' (1957).

Well, you know I would never ever brag . . . but I've identified elderly actors in relatively modern movies by the sound of their voices from classic movies they were in several decades earlier.

Conversely, I've frequently recognized young versions of veteran actors who appear in modern movies, just by the sound of their voices, or by the unique expressions and gestures they've used all their lives.

I've also spotted sound effects from old movies which were used again, many years later.

And when I hear a piece of music which was used several decades after it was first composed, I hop up and down on the couch and say —

"Oh, oh, I know that piece! It was used in . . . ummm . . . ummm . . . Got it! That Columbia movie in the late 1940s!"

I can often guess the composer of a movie's soundtrack based on musical clues specific to their style.

And finally, there's this funny story.

When I first saw the Pixar movie Cars in theater back in 2006, it took me about 30 minutes to finally realize that the elderly voice of "Doc Hudson" was an older version of a star I've loved for decades.

Sitting there in the theater, I finally told myself to imagine how the voice would sound back when the actor was much younger.

And suddenly . . . "Ah-ha! That's Paul Newman!" Very Happy

Sam Katzman produced low-budget horror and fantasy films. In the 1950s, he was producing for Columbia Pictures at the same time that Ray Harryhausen was busy with his projects at the same studio.

Understandable, then, that Katzman asked Ray to create the creature effects for this film. Katzman had been the executive producer on Earth vs. the Flying Saucers in 1956. Harryhausen: The Lost Movies.

Sidebar: Well I do have to give Sam credit for at least trying to have Ray perform his legendary stop-motion animation sorcery for this awful movie. I'm sure Ray felt that he dodged a bullet, a cannon ball, by not being associated with this debacle, if he even ever saw it. Fortunately, Ray was otherwise occupied on other projects and was unable to work on this disaterpiece.

It's also the sound I make if The Giant Claw shows up in my "recommended" streaming feed Laughing

Yikes! What a stinker!
