The first man on the moon wasn't really on the moon. He was [in] the moon. And so Neal Armstrong can still claim he was the first man on it.

But as to the Man in the Moon, he was only ON it in the sense of looking at it and dreaming of it. At the time he lived, this wasn't considered being moonstruck, or a lunatic. He wanted to look at it more closely, and so much that he found himself in space one day, looking at it. He wasn't there physically. His body was still on Earth. But his spirit had gone into space due to his longing, and now he could view it more closely, in a way he was unable to do while he was on Earth and using his physical eyes.

He studied it now from this perspective many a time, and decided he wanted to be on it. And so his yearning took him to its surface. Then, being a spirit, he entered into it. He put his arms around his knees and sat there within it, and took in the moon while the moon took him in. And there he is to this day, the spirit not being subjected to mortality.

So great was his affinity for the moon that his study of it and entrance into it imprinted his face geologically on the surface of the moon. If you study the moon carefully and in a certain way, you can make out his face. And if you can't, it may be because it has gone over to the dark side.

That last line about the Man in the Moon "going over to the dark side" cracked me up! Laughing

A clever and well written post, John. Thanks.
