Thanks Bruce, these were fun to listen to. Had no idea that The Blob had a song to it. Goldfinger is a classic; I've enjoyed many of the musical scores to the James Bond movies. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the best scores, For Your Eyes Only is another one I enjoy.
The Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea one is kinda a corny but I've always liked it. It was wise of Irwin Allen to not use it again for the Voyage television series though, the score they came up with for the series is perfect. |

Hmmm . . .a puzzling statement, Mike. The song is, in fact, the title theme in the movie. You've heard it every time you've watched the opening credits of The Blob!

Re Journey to the Seventh Planet: Boy, nothing says "outer space adventure" like a cheesy Euro-pop love ballad!
The Jack Nitzsche composition "The Last Race" was first released in February 1964 and later became the theme from Village of the Giants. It also showed up in Death Proof, Quentin Tarantino's segment of the 2007 double-feature film Grindhouse.

Instead of the "serious" scare music written for The Blob's opening credits by composer Ralph Carmichael, the film's producers opted for the bouncy title song by Burt Bacharach and Mack David (Hal's brother). To me it sounds like Cuban dance music.
Beware of the Blob, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor
Right through the door
And all around the wall
A splotch, a blotch
Be careful of the Blob, cha-cha-cha!

Golly, Mike, I love that song! The title for The Blob was played on radio stations in 1958. And Serius XM plays it on their oldies channel now!
Back in the 1990's an oldies FM station on Atlanta actually took requests from listeners, and if someone amused the DJ, he would play a recording of the listener making his request.
My friend Rod Bennett made a cassette tape from that station so I could hear him requesting The Blob. I still have the tape. Rod's request went like this.
DJ: What can I play for ya today?
Rod: I wanna hear . . . The Blob!
DJ: Ah-ha. The theme from The Blob.
Rod: You know that one, don't ya? It has some guy making that popping sound with his finger in his mouth.
DJ: I do remember that!
Rod: I guess that means it's a Pop record, right?
DJ: (Ends the call while chuckling as the song starts to play.) _________________ ____________
