Famous Monsters of Filmland #12 gave us a nice article about robots in 1961, and one of the pictures was a robot from a 1952 movie called Mother Riley Meets the Vampire (aka Vampire Over London).
I found the first three pictures of the robot below by Googling the name of the movie listed in FM. It's actually one of the best robots from the 1950s . . . and this was the first time I'd ever seen it!

If you haven't seen the Mother Riley movie, DON'T. It is painfully awful.
The robot from that movie was up for auction a couple of years ago.
The FM article is pretty sloppy. There is no android in The Vanishing Shadow serial. That is just a mannequin. TOBAR the Great? Jeez _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |
