What ever happened to those flying yachts we were supposed to have?

That was an interesting article, BDT. But the last couple photos of the converted PBY rotting on the sand didn't show the same aircraft covered in the rest of the photo spread.

The converted PBY (the "flying yacht") had a completely made-over nose and a civilian paint job. The abandoned one had an unconverted military-duty nose and the paint looked like what was left of standard Navy colors.

I think somebody on the magazine staff pulled out a couple photos of some other abandoned PBY.

Flying boats, or seaplanes, do seem rather retro now - and kitting one out like a private yacht seems a nice idea. Or make a big cruise ship that wouldn't have to spend time at sea between holiday destinations...

But we're meant to concentrate on retro future girls here, right? Very Happy

A very similar pose to the one Bud admired a few posts back! Wink

But that provides time for karaoke. Sad

Yes, I can't say that I am convinced by that "flying cruise liner" concept. You presumably want to have days at sea to sunbathe, or indulge in various vacation-style events, including karaoke. If every day or two brought you to a different port in a different country, to explore, it really wouldn't be very relaxing...

People I know who have tried to talk me into booking a cruise usually try to push the unlimited cuisine on board. Flying between ports of call would severely limit the time available for overindulgence.

The TV movie "Mysterious Island of Beautiful Women (1979)" had a Catalina flying yacht. In a movie full of petty women, I found the PBY to be the most fascinating thing. Laughing

A great title, and no doubt an under-rated movie, full of pretty women...

The cruise ads I see in the newspapers don't just offer unlimited cuisine included in the price, but unlimited drinks too... Shocked

This photograph meets all of Bud's size requirements. It also meets or exceeds all of his other beauty requirements.

This photo was in the newspaper today for a 70-style disco party. Nice makeup on ladies.

Another retro look, though not as form-fitting a costume... Wink

Yuliya Solntseva in Aelita - Queen of Mars (1924). Excuse me, but does she have three breasts?

Things to Come, 1936

Unidentified magazine illustration, probably mid-1950s

"Space Age" fashion by designer André Courrèges, 1964

You can never have too many U.F.O. Moonbase women. Love the purple wigs!

Believe me, I've known some petty ones!

Hopefully, more pretty ones than petty ones. But if we bring science fiction magazine artwork into this thread, how about this back cover of Spaceway, June 1956?

I suspect that the "Paul Dell" signature would belong to Paul Blaisdell... ah yes, isfdb agrees...

After all of the neat pictures that scotpens posted, I am not sure if other good pictures exist.

Well, maybe one more.
