You wouldn't think that a simple band-aid could acquire a lot of hi-tech enhancements — but this one has more built-in technology than a transistor radio from the 1960s! Shocked

Medical Daily has as an online article called Band-Aid Of The Future: MIT Develops Electronic Bandage That Heals Wounds Faster which describes a clear strip of stretchable plastic with embedded electronics and small reservoirs of medication.

The sensors monitor your vitals and send them to your phone! They can also send the data to your doctor!! (What's next? Messages to Santa to tell him if you've been naughty or nice? Laughing)

Read the article at the link above, and watch the video below. If you're already wearing one of these 21st Century band-aids, I should warn you that it will send a signal to All Sci-Fi if you don't add a reply.

Then it will deliver an electric shock. Twisted Evil

Okay, so that's the SCIENCE. Now let's add the FICTION!
________________________________

[size=18]Imagine how much these super band-aids might improve in the next ten years! It's not improbable for them to be so responsive to the wearer's vital signs they would sense things like an elevated heart rate, dangerously high blood pressure, a heart attack, or a stroke.

The band-aid could send the data to the nearest hospital, which could dispatch an ambulance to assist the wearer.

So, how about a story in which a burglar enters a small neighborhood store in the Bronx and demands money from an elderly clerk. The stress of the situation triggers a heart attack, and the band-aid alerts the paramedics.

The police are notified that an ambulance is en route to the Jiffy Mart on 32nd Street, and the policeman patrolling the area (Officer McDaniel) happens to know that the little store is run by Pop Johnson, a nice old fellow who gives him free Twinkies whenever he stops in for cigarettes.

He also knows that Pop has been held up twice, and it frightened him so badly he experienced chest pains afterwards. These events prompted Pop to get one of those band-aids that monitor his vitals.

Officer McDaniel suspects that Pop is in trouble. He hits the siren, races to the scene, and rushes in with his weapon drawn just as the perpetrator is about to escape with a sack of cash from the register!

McDaniel drops the culprit with shot to his knee, then he does CPR on Pop until the EM folks arrive.

Working title for this story: The Band-aid that Saved the Day! Very Happy
