The first time I saw this in an Atlanta art house theater, I was convulsed with laughter. Laughing

"You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll kiss three bucks good-bye!"

And think of how much prices have risen since 1977!

I used Inflation Calculator to find out how much "three bucks" from 1978 was worth now in 2018.

I was surprise to learn that $3.00 in 1978 is the equivalent of $11.60 today!

And these days we get IMAX, stereo sound, and theater seats that look like THIS!

Two days ago I paid $13.00 to see Bumblebee at a Regal Cinema in RPX (Regal Premium Experience), with a screen about the size of an IMAX. and theater seats that vibrate like crazy during all the deafening explosions!

So, Eadie, if your thinking, "Wow, movies were so much cheaper back then!", that's not quite fair. The ticket prices aren't that different after adjusting for inflation . . . but the theater experience is much better! Shocked

Add in the costs for snacks, parking, etc. and the average price (tickets included) is in the $20.00 to $30.00 range.

Oh lord, the snacks are more expensive than the tickets! A large popcorn and large drink these days at an AMC cinema is $14.59.

As for parking, all theaters I've been to in the last few decades had abundant free parking in front of the theater. Is that not true in your area?

This is the theater I've been going to in North Carolina for the last 10 years (along with one or two others occasionally.)

One of the other theaters I've been to had the reclining seats AND a swing-out tray that could be positioned in front of you!

A friend of mine told me about a theater where you could order snacks and they would bring them to you. (I'll have to see that to believe it.)
