The title means Standard Operating Bullshine (not really, but this is a family board), but also Sexually Oriented Business, and of course Son Of A B*tch.

Felix Farmer (Richard Mulligan), is a phenomenally successful film producer who has just made the first major flop of his career, the movie "Night Wind". The end result is the loss of millions of dollars to the studio, the loss of his wife, Sally Miles (Julie Andrews) the star of "Night Wind", and the loss of his mind.

Standing with Felix is Tim Culley (William Holden) the lascivious Director of "Night Wind". Dr. Irving Finegarten (Robert Preston), Felix and Sally's physician, who is a Doctor Feel Good (A Dr. who will make sure you pass the physical exam for the studio). And Robert Webber as Ben Coogan, Sally's press agent who is on the verge of nervous collapse.

After Felix has several unsuccessful attempts at suicide, he has a revaluation. He will turn "Night Wind" into the world's most expensive skin flick!

Will he succeed?

"S.O.B." is a dark comedy Blake Edwards film, that is his middle finger to Hollywood. Practically EVERYONE in the movie is twisted.

Tim Cully is always on the prowl for a new conquest.
Dr. Irving Finegarten is of dubious, but loyal character.
Ben Coogan is a nervous wreck.

The opposition.
Sally Miles, who drops her husband when the movie flops.
Gary Murdock (Stuart Margolin), Sally's personal secretary and an aspiring producer, who sells Sally out for a producing job.
Eva Brown (Shelley Winters), Sally's agent, a lesbian who is quick to also sell out Sally.
David Blackman (Robert Vaughn), the president of Capitol Studios, a closet transvestite.
Dick Benson (Larry Hagman), a Capitol studios executive and Blackman's right-hand man and Toady.
Polly Reed (Loretta Swit), a Hollywood gossip columnist, who is hated an feared.
Willard Pratt (Craig Stevens), Polly Reed's henpecked husband. Not evil, just weak.

The movie is based on Edwards troubles in Hollywood in the early 70's where he had some bombs, and trouble from the Studios. This was Edwards' revenge. Many of the characters are thinly disguised versions of real people.

It's twisted, dark, mean spirited, but very, very funny.

David.

Bruce and I had a good time with this one doing a private live chat a few weeks ago. Personally, I happen to think it's one of the funniest movies ever made -- having lived all my life in L.A., where half the people are connected with "the industry" in one way or another!
