Y (2019? /2020?) FX has picked up the series adaptation of the comic book series “Y: The Last Man” by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra.

Titled Y, the series traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival. Diane Lane stars in Y, leading an ensemble cast featuring Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield with Marin Ireland and Amber Tamblyn.

Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal serve as showrunners and executive producers. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force and Brian K. Vaughan also executive produce and developed the series. Melina Matsoukas directed the pilot episode and also serves as an executive producer. The series is produced by FX Productions.

“’Y: The Last Man’ is a towering achievement among graphic novel storytelling and it’s been rewarding to work with this outstanding team,” said Nick Grad, co-president of FX Networks and FX Productions. “Michael Green and Aïda Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.”

“Y: The Last Man” is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series that debuted in 2002. It received three Eisner Awards, and received the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for “Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.”

“Brian and Pia’s exploration of a world without men is a favorite for its depth, its humor, its insights and its monkey,” said Croal and Green. “Adapted today it offers us a cracked mirror to look at our own very cracked world. We thank them for their trust — we thank FX for their support — and we thank the casting gods for letting us work with this incredible group of actors.”

Nice paintings!

The guy looks almost as badass as the woman. Shocked

Here's the cover art for one issue that does look much like all the others I've seen so far, along with the actual cover itself. This is from Fandom.com, and they say it's Y: The Last Man Vol 1 28.

I'm puzzled. This seems to be a sneak preview of another series called Trigger - Ring of Truth part II, rather than Y: The Last Man. Can anyone clarify this for me?

But I sure like what's going on in the picture. It's got a heck of a lot to grab your attention! A crashed spaceship, a flaming meteor, two flying crabs, a monkey in a space helmet, a gorgeous girl leaning against the man's crotch and caressing his thigh, and a square-jawed pistol-packin' space hero who's trying to look cool while pretending not to notice what the gal is doing down there near his waist! Laughing

Series Has Hazy Future at FX as Producers Exit in Shakeup

http://collider.com/y-the-last-man-fx-series-update-producers-exit/

Y: The Last Man producers Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green have taken to Twitter to announce that FX “has decided not to move forward with our series in its current form,” though a network insider says that FX has merely parted ways with the producers over creative differences, and that it’s still moving forward with the series and the current cast. Confused? So are we.

Croal and Green co-produced the pilot, based on Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra‘s acclaimed comic book series that follows the sole surviving male on Earth after a virus completely hands the planet over to women. The creative team tapped Melina Matsoukas to direct and Rodrigo Prieto to serve as her director of photography, and together, they cast Barry Keoghan to star alongside Diane Lane, Lashana Lynch, Imogen Poots, Amber Tamblyn and Julianna Canfield.

“We hoped to reward their talent and their trust not just with success, but with a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said. As Y: The Last Man fans ourselves, we hope the future allows just that.”, wrote Croal and Green in a joint statement.

Reading between the lines there, I’m guessing they delivered an extremely political, subversive and likely divisive take, whereas FX was likely looking for something a bit more commercial and mainstream. The network has had high hopes for Y: The Last Man, as has all of Hollywood, where the project has been in development for more than a decade.

It remains to be seen who will take over production of Y: The Last Man and whether the talent will want to remain aboard, not to mention whether the pilot will be re-shot. It sounds like the entire show will need to be re-conceived to meet FX’s high standards, [??? — Eadie] which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, no matter how sad Y: The Last Man fans are today. All I know is that the network and the producers put together a top-notch cast, and it would be a shame to let that kind of ensemble slip through FX’s fingers and go to waste.

It’s unclear whether FX’s recent sale to Disney played a role in the fate of the series, but I’d imagine we’ll receive further clarification in the coming weeks.
