TODAY’S TOPIC: A fairly common theme in science fiction movies is the existence of two very difference societies who are, in some manner, at odds with each other.

Some films present a ruling class who take advantage of an impoverished working class. Other films portray two groups that are hostile to each other.

That’s our theme for today’s Featured Threads. Several of the movies have been included in recent lists of Featured Threads., but I’m hoping our members will consider this particular aspect of those movies and offer their comments on the subject, perhaps comparing two or more of the movies.

The one aspect they share in common is that they all take place in the future.

It’s a veriable utopia if you know the right peole — but if you don’t, the best you can say about it is that you’ll never be unemployed.

This one is also a veritable utopia . . . at first glance. But when the sun goes down, stay indoors!

Just because a group of people live in an exotic community doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the ruling class.

The unique thing about this story is that the two groups end hostilities and unite peaceably in the finale.

This story ends on a hopeful note, because Doc Brown was right when he said the future can be changed.

A space traveler helps two extremely different groups begin to resolve their differences . . . in the sequels.

A hero from the past helps a misguided society combat their criminal element . . . but he’s NOT a time traveler!
