Pye-rate, you are truly a man of few words. Smile

Conversely, I'm a man of many words -- not to mention many pictures. And these are worth about a thousand words each.

In a word, folks . . . sweet. Cool

Yes, but which one would win in a dogfight? I'm thinking the Moller corners better (even though the highway mileage is probably not so hot. Wink)

Welcome, guys. Thanks for joining. Very Happy

Okay, then, here's what I had posted in the other thread...

I guess Paul Moller was getting a little long in the tooth to keep scamming investors after 50 years of failure-to-deliver:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moller_M400_Skycar

At least this new concept vehicle drives like a car while on the ground. With Moller's Skycar, you would still have to rent a car.

Will Brody deliver what Moller never did?

Flying cars -- more accurately called roadable aircraft -- have been around at least since the 1930s. So has the promise that "a flying car in every garage" is just around the corner.

It's the wings that are the problem, isn't it? They need to be large to give an aircraft-type lift, but they have to fold up, or retract, for highway and garage use. Too many hinges would make them a bit weak... I wonder if it would be possible to have a type of wing which, when not inflated or otherwise stiffened, could be rolled up and stored in the car's sides. Otherwise we'll just have to wait for anti-gravity before the idea really, er, takes off... Embarassed

Wow, what a wacky idea I just had . . .

Avis Rent-a-Wing!

You can rent wings for your specially built car, fly it to your destination, and turn in the wings at the airport rental agency -- instead of returning a rented car. Ditto of the return trip.

What do you think, guys?

So you'd need a special aircar, with at least part of the propulsion system in the main fuselage, and drive it to the local airfield to have the Avian wings temporarily added? I can't say I'm 100% convinced, but maybe you should get in touch with the US Patents Office, just in case... Cool

Wow, I'm impressed!

Custer identifies the problem and then suggests a truly novel solution; inflatable wings!

This concept might sound impractical at first, but I think it might actually work. With the right materials and a high enough air pressure inside the inflatable wing, they could hold their shape during flight.

I NEVER would have thought of that. Confused

Pye-Rate says that there is a metal-ceramic type of plastic which is normally soft but stiffens under an electric currant. Maybe that would work to make the wings out of.[/i]
