Future Cars From the Past — complete gallery

Several years ago I found a fantastic web site featuring images of the cars below and many more. If you love "future cars" you'll love this site!

1953 Ford X-100

1953 Ford XL-500

1955 Lincoln Futura

1954 Ford FX Atmos

1955 Ford Mystere

1955 Ford La Tosca

1958 Ford La Galaxie

The interior of the La Galaxie is amazing!

Click on the image below to go to IMGUR and view an image sized at 1,024px X 768px which you can zoom in on! You'll get an image which allows you to pretend your nose is pressed against this Forbidden-Planet-like dashboard!

The horizontal feature on top in the center actually extends forward through the lower edge of the windshield and out onto the hood of the car!

And notice that there's another one on the passenger's side! I have no idea what either of them are for -- but I love 'em!

1959 Cadillac Cyclone XP-74

1962 Ford Cougar

1961 Ford Gyron

1958 Ford X-1000

Syd Mead's concept car

1962 Ford Seattle-ite XXI

The Seattle-lite was an unusal six-wheeled automobile that incorporated advanced innovations -- but a full-size version was never built, despite what seems to be one in the picture below.

This bit if trick photography imployed the same techniquie used in Darby O'Gill and the Little People -- the lady is standing further back from this 5/9 scale model than she seems to be.

But these two gentlemen are either right beside the model or their giant mutant executives (a frightening thought . . .
Shocked)

GM's Firebird III

I've never cared for the big wheel well, so here's my own version. Very Happy

1962 Ghia Selena

1950 Mercury Bob Hope Special

Darryl Starbird's custom Fantabula

_________

I have very fond memories of the two cars below. I had a model of the one of the left in the early 1960s. The box it came in said that this "Car of the Future would float on a cushion of air". The model kit included a short section of surgical tubing which attached to the rear of the model. When I blew on the tubing, the model rose a fraction of an inch from the table, lifted by the tiny air holes in the bottom. Cool!

The car on the right was used in the Jerry Lewis movie, Cinderfella. It was put on display in parts of the country to promote the movie. I saw it in the Atlanta area and bought an 8X10 photo.

Click on the links below and watch two videos which showcases the amazing Golden Sahara.

________

Robert Day provided these pictures of automotive gems from the future -- according to the 1960s. The pictures below include the Mono-Scooter, the 1966 Ford Sports Futura, and a 1966 GM concept car which included a built-in shopping cart in the trunk
