A puzzlingly unskilled film from Curt Siodmak, a man who has contributed much to the field of science fiction since the early days of Universal horror movies. Siodmak wrote and directed this low-budget film about a Brazilian plantation owner who refuses to believe in the legendary monster which the natives blame for a series of brutal murders.
When he finally becomes convinced, he ventures into the snake-invested rain forest to hunt the beast down. Filmed on location in Brazil. Starring John Bromfield (Revenge of the Creature), Beverly Garland (Attack of the Crab Monsters), and John Payne (Miracle on 34th Street).
This movie was originally co-billed with The Mole People. _________________ ____________

This movie promised me a jungle monster and reneged on the deal. Broke my ten-year-old's heart and I've never forgiven it.
Saw it once again a few years later on TV. Thought maybe knowing the disappointment ahead of time would put me in a more receptive frame of mind. Didn't. All I could think of was that terrible afternoon at the LeRose Theatre in 1960 and I got furious all over again, staring at the TV.
There are lots of movies I don't like, lots that bore me, lots that I consider terrible pieces of filmmaking. But...I've always considered it a waste of good emotion to hate a movie. This is the exception. This is the movie I truly despise. _________________ Man need not kneel before the angels,

But Rick, the trailer looks wonderful!
After all, this movie takes place in "mysterious Brazil, land of skyscraper cities! Thriving seaports! A glittering night life! And only a stone's throw away from the worlds' most savage unexplored jungle — it's terrifying wonders brought to the screen in pursuit of . . . "
Curucu: Beast of the Amazon!!!
And we get to see sexy Beverly Garland assaulted by three denizens of the jungle: a python, the monster, and John Bromfield — the latter of which lays a kiss on Beverly so deep it must have turned her lips inside out!
And the trailer is a non-stop suite of Universal Horror/Sci-Fi music. It will put in the mood for about five different movies in less than two minutes!

Nice painting!
The artist is Reynold Brown, and he did many of the posters we've loved for decades. What a great artists!
A website called Monster Brains has a huge gallery of his work, including the painting above and several other examples of the original paintings that became famous posters — like the one below.
Notice the incredible detail in the original painting that either isn't large enough to see in the poster, or was covered up by the title!
I've created a new gallery for Reynold Brown. Click here to view it. Gallery 15 - The Poster Art of Reynold Brown
