Didn't see this one listed, so here it is...

From Wiki:
The Monster and the Ape was the 26th serial released by Columbia Pictures and was released in 1945.

The Monster of the title is the "Metalogen Man", a robot created by Professor Franklin Arnold. After displaying his invention, the robot is stolen by Professor Ernst with the aid of his trained ape, Thor. Ken Morgan leads the attempts to recover the stolen robot.

I've known about this serial for decades but just saw it last night for the first time (thanks to Tubi adding a bunch of serials recently Smile ).

All I can say is: Yikes! what a turd! I'm not sure who thought calling it "The Monster and the Ape" instead of "The Robot and the Ape" was a good idea, but it wasn't.

For that matter the whole thing wasn't a good idea. I know serials have to have a certain formula to them and are very repetitive but brother! this one was not very well thought out in the logic department.

The robot is okay-looking, as is the ape suit, for a Hollywood gorilla that is. But the plot has many holes in it and the characters repeatedly do things that make no sense at all.

I've never liked the total fake-out cliffhanger recaps, but I can give some slack for serials, but this one had a few really inexcusable ones, such as showing the hero (well, a dummy) actually flattened by a landslide only to scramble out of the way in the next episode Rolling Eyes

By gum, Tim, that robot is definitely a cut above most of the robots from the serials! The torso and the legs are especially good!

(Oh wait . . . I was looking at the girl.) Embarassed

But the robot does look relatively good. In fact, the only one from that era I like better is from the serial called —
