John Saxon (August 05, 1936~July 25, 2020) has passed away age 83.

John was the guest star on many sf TV shows : The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, The Sixth Sense, The Time Tunnel, The Fantastic Journey and Wonder Woman.

John appeared in the Roger Corman 1980 sf film Battle Beyond The Stars which is really a retelling of The Magnificent Seven in outer space.

The film was one of the most expensive movies ever done by Corman who is well known for producing his many films on tight budgets.

One of John's most promising projects was as PAX Team leader Dylan Hunt on the Gene Roddenberry TV movie/pilot "Planet Earth" from April 23, 1974.

The show was about the revival of the planet Earth in a post apocalyptic time.
PAX is a peaceful community of people attempting to rebuild a better world and help the many different communities that have sprung up over the decades.

"Planet Earth" was GR's second pilot based on the same idea. "Genesis II" was the earlier version.

When the network passed on "GII" they commissioned GR to produce a second pilot.

A network rarely ever did anything like that back then or now.
Once a network decides not to pick up a pilot for a weekly series then the pilot is history.

NBC commissioned a second pilot from GR of Star Trek and that second time the show finally sold.

Sadly, this was not to be the case for "Planet Earth."

John made a commanding figure in "PE" and would have made a fine lead for the show had it been picked up.

On John Saxon's passing, "Nightmare On Elm Street" is Not the film that I would remember him by.

It's actually more common than people know. Especially if the studio, or network spent a lot of money on the sets and props. Sometimes they like the premise, but want a different take on it. Or if they want to please the producer, writer or star.

Once you've already built the sets, costumes and props, filming a second pilot isn't that expensive.

David.
