I just discovered this French science fiction movie today from a website called Flickchart which lists science fiction movies from the 1930's.
This is how IMDB describes this strange but interesting movie.

After serving in the trenches of World War I, Jean Diaz recoils with such horror that he renounces love and personal pleasure to immerse himself in scientific research, seeking a machine to prevent war.
He thinks he has succeeded, but the government subverts his discovery, and Europe slides with seeming inevitability toward World War II. In desperation, Diaz summons the ghosts of the war dead from the graves and fields of France to give silent, accusing protest. _________________ ____________

iirc, this was (very unfortunately in the sense that it was necessary) a remake of Gance's picture by the same name concerning World War I. Both are very, very powerful.
I think that Gance's pictures visually are a treat. My fav is La Fin Du Monde. (fwiw, I'm working with someone to bring to the public a translation of the novelization of that one by Joakim Renez) _________________ "There is a planet in the Solar System where the people are so stupid they didn't catch on for a million years that there was another half to their planet." - Kilgore Trout. |

Steve, my 2014 post above has waited a decade for an interesting reply.
It was worth the wait . . . _________________ ____________
