Nice variety of story premises here. Cool

~ A strange underground world populated with incredible creatures.

~ A May-December romance on a moon of Saturn.

~ And a marooned group of space explorers who find themselves on planet filled with prehistoric monsters. It includes some of the best non-Harryhausen stop motion ever done.

Gargoyles (1972 TV movie)

Opening Statement: While on vacation in Mexico, anthropologist Cornel Wilde and daughter Jennifer Salt find a unusual skeleton, the remains of a winged creature that resembles a gargoyle. Later they find the cave where a hidden society of the creatures live. The gargoyles are intelligent and determined to keep their existence a secret.

Saturn 3 (1980)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ Hector the robot stood over eight feet tall, and cost a little over $1 million to make.

Note from me: Hector is complex as hell, but its very unappealing and extremely ungainly. You'd think a million bucks would buy a better robot.

Planet of Dinosaurs (1978)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production. Very Happy

~ One of the dinosaurs that Capt. Lee encounters near the end of the film when he is trying to get the T-Rex's attention is based on the Rhedosaurus, the fictional dinosaur from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953). Ray Harryhausen visited the studio during production and gave his consent for the creature's cameo appearance.

Note from me: The tribute to Ray is admirable! Notice that the relative scale of the T-Rex and the Rhedosaurus is not correct — on purpose, of course. The Rhedosaurus in Beast from 20,000 Famous is far bigger and the T-Rex, so the producers of this movie chose to make is small enough to be a tasty meal for the Tyrannous.
