The excerpt from the post by larryfoster below is a perfect example of why I deeply regret that he hasn't posted on All Sci-Fi since May 30, 2015! His email address no longer works, so my attempts to bring him back to us have failed.

His sudden absence from the board came after he added 104 comments to this current version during its first year after the Great Crash of 2014. That tragic event wiped out seven years of amazing discussions. Larryfoster's abrupt departure in May of 2015 leads me to believe that he might be yet another member we've lost because they've passed away.

Our list of confirmed members we've lost for that reason currently stands at three, but I suspect there might be others. Out of 143 members, I have 30 email addresses which no longer work, and I fear that some of these folks have died.

As for larryfoster's, here's a quote from a post on the first page of this thread, a very original idea for a story which incorporates elements of Fantastic Voyage, using cutting edge technology! It not only describes the basis for a perfect remake of that 1967 classic, it expands the concept to a future society which provides starship crews with the ultimate health care plan!

Bud, it's a great way to keep people or populations in line too. Just let them know that they have all these microscopic assassins idling in their body, just in case they do something someone thinks they shouldn't. They could threaten not only death, but painful physical disabilities. The possibilities for torture and crippling conditions are endless!

It could mean the end of whistle-blowers, industrial spies, labor difficulties, strikes. Government agencies, particularly the security and intelligence agencies, would love it. Current day China, Google, Facebook and Amazon would be all over it. A tyrant's dream. The possibilities for crime boggle the mind! No more stool pigeons, or snitches. Assassinations become a breeze!

And the best part? You could infect a person without them even knowing it! Just slip a microscopic package into their food or drink, and they'd be none the wiser...until you activate the little microscopic assassins.

Okay, I'm beginning to be a little concerned about my mental processes.

David, that would make a great story!

Everyone would have the micro-nanobots injected at birth. They would also make it possible to track and locate anyone at will.

Of course if you move up in the government you'd want to damper your implant — in other words, freedom can only come to one with political power!

The government would, of course, stress the positive benefits to you from the implants and that it's worth giving up some freedoms to achieve that security.

The heroes of the tale would be those young independent whipper-snappers who question this status quo.

Wow . . . You two are brilliant.

The ideas your two posts presented, working in cooperation to develop the concept, is exactly the sort of complex science fiction story I created All Sci-Fi for back in 2006! I wanted to make a place for imaginative people to present their ideas and debate there opinions.

That has always been our mission.

For me, the beauty of what you two have described is not only perfectly logical and consistent as a premise for one-or-more stories . . . it also completely different from anything I would ever have thought of!

In other words, my intrinsic optimism would have seen nothing but the positive applications of the "micro-nanobots", and I would only picture a world of happy, healthy people who were ruled by wise and benevolent leaders!

Yeah, I know . . . I'm the typical "cockeyed optimist" who thinks the future will be rosy, noble, and beautiful.

But we all know that's not the real world, so I'd like to thank both of you for presenting a more realistic version of the premise.

I've been watching this show for the last couple of weeks and like it a lot! I do remember it from childhood and I love the music opener!

Interesting to note the differences between the Fantastic Voyage Movie and Fantastic Voyage Animated Show.

FVM :C.M.D.F (Combined Miniature Deterrent Force).

FVAS : C.M.D.F.(Combined Miniature Defense Force).

Wonder if the producers switched deterrent to defense for dramatic reasons? Or figured the tots watching wouldn't know what deterrent meant.

Dumbing down the audience.

FVM : The ship name is Proteus.

FVAS: Voyager is the vessel's name. Decades before the ST:V TV show.

FVM: Time limit for the miniaturized team is 60 minutes.

FVAS : 12 hours is the time limit. In the first episode "Gathering Of The Team"professor Carter states that they don't know exactly how long the miniaturization process will last as this is the trial run for the team and Voyager.

The crew for FVAS is totally different from the live film characters.

Commander Jonathan Kidd. We see him on a mission prior to being summoned for the FV missions. He is an expert scuba diver & parachutist. He dives from a plane and into the ocean and swims to a wrecked futuristic looking jet aircraft.

He swims into it and then (after a battle with an octopus) opens up the lid to a large cylinder after which he swims away. Exactly what this was fore is not explained in either dialogue or action scenes. Odd.

He does use a nifty looking communication wrist device once he returns to the surface.

Dr. Erica Lane. Medical expert & biologist.

We first encounter her on a space station saving an injured crewman. When she informed to report to the C.M.D.F. she is told that there are no available pilots to take her back to Earth and that she'll have to pilot the capsule herself.

"Won't be the first time"she replies.

Talented lady, a doctor and space pilot.

BTW, she pilots a full sized rocket back to Earth and not a lone capsule. Writer's needed to do better research.

When Professor Carter firsts suggests Erica for the team the mysterious & silhouetted Chief remarks, "A woman?''

Well, it was the sixties when this cartoon was produced.
But man,that line wouldn't fly now. Nor should it.

Guru. He's a eastern mystic with supernatural powers.
Hate this concept as I prefer my science fiction to be just that without magical elements introduced.

I don't think the 2 genres mix well at all. Sort of like having Samantha Stevens or Jennie as part of the crew of the Enterprise. Hard pass.

Professor carter next mentions that the team needs a engineer, physicist,mechanic and pilot all in one.

Well, that's not asking much.

Obviously having one person have all those skills meant that the team could be smaller and that in turn meant less figures to animate.

Still.

Busby Birdwell is the designer of the Voyager and apparently has those other skills. He is also annoying with his nerdy voice,bickering with Guru,and attempts at comic relief.

The device that miniaturizes the Voyager & team is totally different in design from the film, but still looks cool.

The team stands outside the Voyager as both are being shrunk, unlike the film where the crew was inside the Proteus as it was reduced in size.

FVM: The ship is placed in what appears to be a hypodermic to be inserted into the stricken scientist.

FVAS : A radio control beam, kinda like a tractor ray, delivers the team to a drop of water for their shakedown cruise.

The show had some very nice design work here and there for equipment and representations of a microscopic world.

However, this is 60's TV animation (and budgets) so ya have to be realistic as to what to expect.

The plots were fun in that the Voyager team would enter all types of places each week and not be relegated to simply copying the film by having them inserted into the human body constantly.

Some story kines were rather clever,some outright silly.

Rereading this thread makes me want to get started building my Proteus. I‘ve had the wonderful Moebius Model kit in my stash for months now and it makes me feel small not to have even broken the shrink wrap yet.

Another TV animated show involving miniaturization was the "Micro Ventures" which was a 4~minute segment of the Hanna Barbera show "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour."

Professor Carter had invented a Micro Reducer machine which he used to shrink himself along with his daughter Jill and son Mike and their dune buggy.

Only 4 episodes were produced.

So far the crew have had two encounters with their arch enemy, the spy, Gregory Senecca! I'm not sure if he's in other episodes yet but he's obviously a communist infiltrator out to derail the CMDF missions and destroy the crew!
