One familiar classic, one British sci-fi comedy, and one I never heard of and will probably never see. Rolling Eyes

This Island Earth (1955)

Opening Statement: ~ In a magazine article, the special effects department admitted that the "mutant" costume originally had legs that matched the upper body. They had so much trouble making the legs look and work properly they were forced by studio deadline to have the mutant wear a pair of trousers. Movie posters show the mutant as it was supposed to appear.

Note from me: All Sci-Fi has nice discussion on this subject, back around page 5.

~ In interviews to promote the film, actors Jeff Morrow and Rex Reason said that when scenes involving the mutant came up during the premiere, it took every ounce of restraint for them not to sneak out. They were extremely embarrassed by the mutant costume, which they likened to a giant bug. They felt that the mutant completely ruined an otherwise decent film.

Note from me: Wow . . . this is a surprise. Sci-fi fans consider the Metaluna mutant to be a hi-lite of the movie!

The Man in the White Suit (1952 England)

Opening Statement: ~ Sir Alec Guinness performed the stunt of climbing down the side of the mansion. He was convinced by a technician, that the piano wire holding him up would not break, since only piano wire with kinks in it would be prone to breaking. As he got to about four feet from the ground, the wire did in fact break.

Note from me: He was lucky not to have fallen from higher up, but to fall flat on his back from four feet up could have been pretty bad!

Day of the Wolves (1971)

Opening Statement: ~ The production was a non-union shoot and used a mixture of professional and local amateur actors and crew. Most of the crew credited in the movie were local Havasu people.

Note from me: Wow, there's nothin' like working your crew to death to create a great cinematic experience.
