Variety is the spice of life. If that's true, today's Feature Threads are pretty spicy!
A TOS episode, a great movie based on an Alistair McLean novel, and a planet with anger issues.

TOS episode #60 - And the Children Shall Lead
Opening Statement: I can't say I regard Whom God's Destroy in quite the low esteem as you, Johnny.
After all, it put our noble captain in a very precarious position. He was at the mercy of a raging madman who overacted outrageously (which is the biggest flaw in the episode).
But it also treated us to Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) in a revealing outfit, with her shapely body painted green all over (Oh, be still my foolish heart . . . ) while she danced around with enough skill to aggravate the acne of all the teenage boys who saw this episode in the late 1960s.
The final comedic scene shown below ends the story on funny note and puts most of America in a good mood for the next show they watched that night on January 3, 1969.
I'm not really disagreeing with you, Johnny — I'm just pointing out a few of the merits in one of TOS' less popular episodes.
___ Star Trek - TOS - "Whom Gods Destroy" Ending
__________
Ice Station Zebra (1968)
Opening Statement: ~ This film was originally shown in Cinerama venues. In order to put it into these theaters, MGM pulled 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) while it was still having a successful run.
Note from me: Strange that the studio would do this, especially since the movie isn't even true Cinerama.
The Angry Red Planet (1959)
Opening Statement: Pow wrote: | So here's the deal: if you can suspend all wars on your planet for just one month — we sincerely doubt you could go any longer — we'll come over for a visit. Maybe even share some of our phenomenal technology with you.
We are confident you will fail — spectacularly. |
Hey, that sounds a little like the alien's challenge in The 27th Day!
We're given a month to show we can resist the urge to wage war, and if we succeed we'll get a huge reward. Bravo, Pow! _________________ ____________
