Okay, so that's the Science. Now let's add the Fiction!
________________________________

The more you read about this remarkable building, the more you realize that's basically the prefect design for a deep space colony ship which is being test right here on Earth. It has the follow features that a ship on a decades-long mission would need.

1. A low carbon tri-generation power plant. Central Park is projected to utilize its own low-carbon natural gas power plant to produce thermal energy. A generational spaceship would have no trouble producing natural gas. Very Happy

2. An internal water recycling network that houses the world's biggest membrane bioreactor recycled water facility, which covers all the water requirements of the community.

3. A hydroponics garden that provides carbon dioxide water and nutrients which are dispersed mechanically to the plants in order to stimulate their growth and survival. The gardens include 350 different species of planets, making it ideal for growing food, producing oxygen, and providing seeds for the colonized world eventually.

4. A complex cantilevered heliostat which collects sunlight and redirects it throughout the interior, as a light source which requires no power!

5. A 280-square meter gymnasium to help maintain the health and fitness of the colonists.

6. A shopping mall to provide material needs and social interaction.

So, I submit that the fiction which this science inspires would be a story about an elegant colony ship on it's way to a new home. Yes, I know, there's plenty of those already, but I'm sure there's more to be said on the subject . . . if the author has enough imagination.

For example, in the imaginary starship inspired by this building, the view from the skylight would be a bit different. Very Happy

Looks like we are moving into James Blish "Cities in Flight" fictional territory, where Terran cities, with force fields and star drives, roam the galaxy...
