YouTube has a number of episodes from this great show, and the picture quality suggests that they're from the restored DVDs sold by Shout Factory.

Portable heart monitors and medical scanners are as common now as Kardashian scandals, but once upon a time they were just a pipe dream (back when smoking was cool and not illegal in public places.)

In Truman Bradley's intro he shows us a little device that was pure science fiction back on April 6, 1956 when this interesting episode aired.

Peter Hansen (the likable young doctor from When Worlds Collide) and Walter Kingsford (a man born to play elderly scientists) develop a heart monitor that can be worn by the patient while it transmits data about his ticker to the doctors back at the lab.

Several years ago I wore a device of that type for 24 hours, recording my heart action to determine if I had a irregular heartbeat.

It turned out that I didn't. Very Happy

They test it on an aging beat cop with a heart problem, and not only does it tell them when he he starts having a heart attack while chasing a suspect, it even allows them to find the comatose copper in a back alley by tracking the radio signals.

So, in addition to predicting the invention of portable heart monitors — which are a reality today — it proposes something similar to satellite global positioning!

This episode really sells the idea that science can be used to save lives and solve critical problems. You'll enjoy it.
