Behold An Awesome Pitch Reel For A Restored/Special Edition Version Of The Classic BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!! New FX!?!?
Ain't It Cool News

.... However, hopes to press forward on a Special Edition of the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA have recently heightened in light of new attention the show has been receiving in the slipstream of creator Glen A. Larson's death, as well as the impending release of Seasonal Blu-ray sets in the UK (a few weeks from now - region free!) and in the US (early next year). There's a flurry of interest in the classic show right now and in this business, timing is everything..... here is a test reel - a demo reel - a proposal reel - for a restoration of the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Belloby indicated that we should think of this proposal along the lines of the recent restoration of STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES. I.e. visual restoration, new effects work, etc. ....

It looks really good, but I thought he missed an opportunity at 00:11 to dress up the view down the length of the Viper bay.

Very impressive! I could really enjoy the old show all over again if it got this kind of treatment. I sure hope they do it.

Thanks, BDT.

This comes out on Blu-ray in North America May 12 (tomorrow as I write this). I had not pre-ordered it because my BD budget this Spring has been driving me into the poorhouse. I planned to get it but I've been putting it off.

However, overnight, amazon.ca lowered the price by thirty bucks to $85.49 CDN which, at the current exchange rate, translates to $70.00US. The set has 18 discs including the proper 4:3 and 16:9 cropped versions (don't care for the cropped ones). For that price, I couldn't pass it up.

BG had some superb production values. The bridge was fantastic in both design as well as size.

The writing. Oh dear, it was dreadful.

The BG reboot was terrific until the awful finale.

I'm watching the first episode of BSG on MeTV right now.

I still marvel at its production values even now. Clearly they spent mucho $$$ on this series. I only wish that the writing had matched the visual splendor of it all.

I can only imagine how The Starlost might have looked with this kind of money backing it.

And if the producers had left Harlan Ellison alone to work on his vision as he saw fit.

While watching the opening 2-part episode of BSG I'm remembering the gorgeous actress Maren Jensen who was a co-star on the show. At least in the beginning.

Her character of Athena is the daughter of Commander Adama (Lorne Greene) & sister of Captain Apollo (Richard Hatch).

She appears to have been intended to be a major player on the show. But as the weeks & episodes went on we see her role dwindle to less & less until she is gone.

Never read what was behind Maren's vanishing part & curious if anyone else knows why?

Remember the first two episodes were released outside the US as a feature movie.

I saw them originally a month before the TV series debuted in Canada. There were a few scenes in the movie that were left out of the broadcast edition.

I do recall how awesome the special effects scenes looked on the big movie screen.

The show only ran one season, and Miss Jensen wasn't exactly Sara Bernhardt in the acting department, so I guess the producers decided she couldn't handle much more that her initial scenes in the show.

Prior to Battlestar Galactica she had very few roles.

No one on that show was exactly Sara Bernhardt.

I have to rescind my post from above.

Anne Lockhart joined the series some weeks after its debut as Viper fighter pilot Sheba.

She is not only attractive but now that I'm watching these episodes for the first time in many years I'm finding she is also a very fine actress.

Miss Lockhart was a honey, but I couldn't find a really good picture of her! I had to take this one and work on it a little to enhance it. It still doesn't do the lady justice by any means.

This is the original. Sad

Thanks Bud, nice pix of Anne.

Ironic that both she & her mom, June Lockhart, ended up being in sci-fi shows in outer space & lost.

Most images of Anne Lockhart from the show do seem a bit blurry, yes...

And yet, with a few adjustments using Paint.net and Microsoft Office Picture Manager, even a lackluster picture like that one can be improved! Very Happy
