Back alley movies and bargain basement films is all I’ve got for you today, but maybe someone will think of something amusing to say about them.

Or maybe I will . . . Rolling Eyes

Starship Invasions (1977 Canadian)

Former U.N.C.L.E. agent Robert Vaughn plays a UFO expert kidnapped by baldheaded aliens who want to help him save Earth from a group of evil aliens lead by Christopher Lee (in a non-speaking role!).

Lee's costume (black tights, a Ming-the-Merciless-style headpiece, a red dragon emblem on his shirt front) is a throwback to the Republic serials. So are his villainous activities; he baths Earth in a suicide ray, and people start killing themselves.

The special effects during the space battle are actually a notch down from the serials.

However, as the lobby card below indicates, some of other the costumes in the film bear no resemblance to the old serials whatsoever . . . Shocked

Written, directed, and co-produced by Ed Hunt. If you'd like to see more of this rare classic, Youtube is happy to obliged.

William Grefe, veteran director of numerous horror and drug-culture films, steps cautiously over the line into science fiction.

John Vella plays a marine biologist's assistant who experiments with Portuguese man 'o war in an effort to discover a cure for his disfigured face. Instead he goes from bad to worse, turning into a jellyfish monster that terrorizes the seacoast tourists.

The monster is played by Doug Hobart. Musical guest star: Neil Sedaka. William Grefe later became a second unit director for James Bond films.

* About that poster: In a just and sane world, the check used to pay the artist would have bounced . . .

Stowaway to the Moon (1975 TV movie)

_______

Above average TV movie with the ultimate wish-fulfillment plot for younger sci-fi fans; an 11 year old boy (Michael Link) sneaks aboard a NASA space vehicle and blasts off with astronaut Lloyd Bridges (who blasted off 25 years earlier in "Rocketship X-M").

Also starring John Carradine and Keene Curtis (a prominent voice in the 13-chapter "Star Wars" radio adaptation). Directed by Andrew V. McLaglen.
