Star Kid (original title The Warrior of Waverly Street) was written and directed by Manny Coto (Star Trek: Enterprise, Next, Strange World). Released on January 16, 1998

Spencer Griffith (Joseph Mazzello: Jurassic Park) is a shy seventh grader. His beloved mother has passed away only 2 years ago, his busy father can't seem to make time for his son, his sister refers to him as "the fungus," he cannot summon up the courage to tell his classmate Michelle that he likes her, and Spencer is in the sights of the older school bully named Turbo. Life is not good.

One night he sees what appears to be a fireball crash into the town junkyard. Upon investigation he discovers that it is some form of alien spacecraft. Emerging from the vehicle is a cybersuit: a prototype exoskeletal body of armor possessing A.I. Spencer calls his new friend, Cy.

Cy hails from the planet Trelkins which is currently under attack by a savage insectoid-like race that has subjugated numerous other worlds. Cy could well be the turning point of the war against the insect civilization and has been sent to Earth for safekeeping while the Trelkins engage with the alien invaders.

Spencer enters into the alien suit which gives him the abilities of enhanced strength, speed, stamina, fighting abilities, and also can scan and analyze just about anything.

Unbeknown to Spencer and Cy is that a Broodwarrior alien is hot on Cy's trail. Its mission is to utterly obliterate the cybersuit and anyone inside of it.

Spencer has fun running and jumping and testing out Cy's capabilities at first. However, once he becomes aware of the deadly Broodwarrior, now on Earth, Spencer wants no part of this deadly conflict. Can shy Spencer summon the courage to help his new found friend? Heady stuff for a seventh grader with little backup. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a fun and entertaining family film in the style of the Disney movies. Poignant moments, laughs, plenty of action along the way.

The 1998 visual effects, animatronics, and stunt work remain impressive 25 years later. Mazzello is a likable and wonderful actor in the lead role, as are the rest of the cast. It's a feel good film that moves along nicely and won't disappoint. Currently available on Youtube and it's an excellent download.
