As part of a research project, I'm compiling a visual list of the earliest, most obscure movie robots.

I'm not counting human-looking robots or Golem types, just mechanical-looking ones. If there's no record of what the robot looks like, I am listing the film it is in for the time being. Can anyone think of any I missed?

1908 An Animated Doll - No images available.

1909 An Extraordinary Duel - No images available.

1909 The Rubber Man - No images available.

1910 Dr. Smith's Automaton - No images available.

1910 A Mechanical Husband - No images available.

1911 The Inventor's Secret - No images available.

1912 The Automatic Motorist

1912 The House of Mystery - No images available.

1914 Sammy's Automaton - No images available.

1918 The Master Mystery

1921 The Mechanical Man

1927 Metropolis - Not obscure, but too damned sharp to skip Smile

1934 Der Herr Der Welt (Master of the World)

Amazing! And yet today we have this — a complex toy that can dance to classical music! Every time I watch this I get chills down my spine!

^^ Dancing robots have come a long way since that video was made 12 years ago. Those clunky Chinese machines look primitive compared to these Boston Dynamics robots that get down and boogie to classic rock. And they do it better than most people!

Gord: I'd forgotten about thata amazing gallery of robot images you posted back on Feb 13, 2020! It did indeed inspire a thread which now includes over sixty great pictures!

Scot: I was stunned by the dancing robots from Boston Dynamics. Those amazing robots can actually do flips! :shock

I found a seven minute video about that company, which I'm sire everybody will enjoy.

Gentlemen, we've reached the point where a movie could be made which used real robots, and the audience would think it was CGI!

Cool! I've seen most of them in my general research, but that picture from Starcrash doesn't have a robot in it. Wink

Caroline Munro in a black bikini distracted my point of focus!
