Clint Eastwood directs and stars in cold war thriller which involves international intrigue and thrilling mountain climbing scenes.

Take note of an early scene in which art professor Clint Eastwood is lecturing to his class, and the gorgeous girls in the front row are putting on a leg show for their handsome young teacher.

A gorgeous blond follows him back to his office and smiles as she states that she'll so [anything[/i] to pass the final exam. When she tells Clint that her roommate will be gone all weekend, he smiles . . . and escorts her out of his office while advising her to use the next few days to cram for the up-coming test!

When I watched that scene, I cackled with glee! Years ago, while I was in college, one of my teachers told a group of his students the exact same story about a winsome young lady who made the same offer to him . . . and he disappointed her by giving her the exact same advice! Very Happy

This obvious inspiration for the scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc is just one reason to watch this thrilling adventure.

The Mountain climbing scenes were filmed on a mountain with a road running through the mountain. There are openings in the mountain where they could set up the cameras to film the actors climbing the mountain.

Clint Eastwood was actually a mountain climber. In addition to this movie, he scaled a mountain in "Where Eagles Dare" while Richard Burton was lifted from below. Laughing

Clint Eastwood was also a helicopter pilot and was filmed flying one in the movie. I bet the insurance providers just loved that scene. Laughing

My brush with fame. Back in the 80s a helicopter convention used to come to New Orleans, and on Sunday the general public could get in to see the helicopters for a nominal fee. I was at the show where I saw a Bell Jet Ranger that had been modified to have retractable landing gear. I was down on my knees looking under the front of the helicopter to see how they shoehorned a retractable wheel into the front space. I felt the helicopter move as someone entered it, I then hear a knocking on the front canopy. I looked up and there was Clint Eastwood sitting in the pilot's seat smiling and waving at me. I smiled, waved back and left the man in peace.

David.

David, your description is both interesting and well written! You painted "word pictures", which is the mark of a good writer. Cool

I started watching my download of The Eiger Sanctum a few days ago to be sure it was a good choice for ASF’S Saturday Night at the Movies. It was a bit different than what I expected — very much a "cold war action/drama" and it struck me as a bit dated.

I considered removing it from the schedule. But your post made me think I should finish watching it before I decided. Thanks. Very Happy
