If you're in Britain, BBC2 will be showing Forbidden Planet on Saturday, from 8:35 am to 10:10. As it's a BBC channel there will, of course, be no interruptions.

Quote:
What unknown terror roams the planet Altair-4, killing everyone apart from tormented scientist Morbius (Walter Pigeon) and his daughter Altaira (Anne Francis)? Starship commander Leslie Nielsen (long before he turned Airplane comedian) finds out in one of the finest science-fiction films ever made. Inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest, this "2001 of the 1950s" is an enthralling eye-popper. The superb monster effects and outstanding technology include Robby the Robot, the subterranean Krell city, Morbius's futuristic home and an impressive array of space vehicles.

Holy Id Monsters, Saturday would be the perfect day for us to have a Forbidden Planet 60th Birthday Party in the chat room and watch it together!

If we held it around 2:00 pm EST, that would be 7:00 GMT — a much more convenient time for you to watch it, Custer, than during your breakfast, right? Of course, you'd have to DVR the airing from the BBC, or may just watch your DVD or BD of our favorite SF movie, FP.

(Somebody call the FBI and the CIA! Bud is talking like a secret agent! Shocked)

What about it, guys! Anybody want to party on Altair 4 this Saturday afternoon? We have GOT to celebrate this momentous occasion! Very Happy

* Please RSVP below so I'll know how much virtual beer to buy.

It should be noted that, while the USA springs forward its clocks by an hour on the second Sunday in March (last Sunday, the 13th), over in Britain and Europe, we wait until the last Sunday in March, which this year is Easter Sunday (the 27th), which hasn't yet been reached. So there's a different difference between us, time-wise, at the moment. Just don't ask me which way, longer or shorter, that's when my head starts to hurt!

Having DirecTV, an old steerable BUD (Big Ugly Dish) and dedicated antenna for the Canadian channels I get a lot of stuff.

So thanks, Custer, for the heads-up!

I'm glad that my post was useful. I do have to mention that I was not intending actually to watch Forbidden Planet this weekend, as I did play my shiny blu-ray disc rather recently... though if enough people do sign up for Bud's suggestion, I might well drop by.

Ya hear that, folks? If we build it, he will come! Don't be a fence sitter or a party pooper. Commit to this venture and tell us right here that you'er willing to boldly go where we've been before but certainly don't mind going again.

Come help us wish Forbidden Planet a Happy 60th Birthday!

So far, nobody has even bothered to say, "Saturday isn't good for me, but Sunday would work," — or — "Can we do it in the evening?" — or even — "Hell, Bud, let's just make Forbidden Planet the chat feature on Friday night. I'll definitely be there for that."

Feedback, people! Talk to me about this. If what I suggested doesn't work for you, make an alternate suggestion.

You might be planning to come to this event, but if you don't tell us your coming, most people will think, "Well, if no one else is interested, why bother?"

So, tell us you're coming!!!

I won't be able to watch Forbidden Planet unless we start it about 6:30 PM or so Saturday evening 3/19.

Or, if you want to substitute Forbidden Planet for When Worlds Collide, scheduled for 9:00 PM Friday night 3/18, that would work for me.

I was planning to skip When Worlds Collide anyway since I saw it fairly recently.

Ah well, that knocks poor of Custer right out of the fun then, 'cause 6:30 EST is 11:00 GMT where he lives. I was hoping he could join us, since his post is what gave me the idea. Sad

How 'bout you other guys? Remember, it doesn't have to be Saturday. Sunday might work better for some people.

Time is running out, folks. We either need to decide on a day and time, of just forget the whole thing. Is this idea just not interesting enough for anybody else to bother with?

This sounds like a neat idea - great reason to run my Blu-ray again! Sunday afternoon 3/19 would work best for me.

That's wonderful, Casey!

I'm sure CinemaBill and Phantom will make that work, if at all possible. And I certainly hope that our other regular chat room folks like alltare and Bulldogtrekker will find that time convenient as well.

Hopefully Custer will be there too to represent the British Empire and give the joint some class. Wink

If all that works out, we'll just need to pick a starting time and we're all set.

I think this is going to be a ton 'a fun! Very Happy

We've got an Empire again? When did that happen...? Very Happy

So, it looks like it will be a fun chat - it's great to have an ASF chat at a time I'm not fast asleep.

Now, I'm posting this at approaching 6:30 in the evening, my time... how does that compare with the projected movie start time?
