Interesting mountain in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park:

I could see this on Altair IV. Speaking of Altair IV, apparently the Krell transplanted some of their ecology to Earth!

Actually this is Naejangsan National Park in South Korea. And (compliments of Bud) here's what it looked like back on Altair 4!

The C-57-D is making its descent and will soon be landing on Altair 4!

I've extended an invitation to the most ardent Forbidden Planet fans who frequent the Classic Horror Film Board, and I posted a message on All Sci-Fi's Facebook page, so I suspect we'll have a good turn out for the party.

It would help to know who might be coming to the chat this Saturday, so if you're planning to attend, please leave a post here to encourage others to join us.

I'm really looking forward to it! Very Happy

One last reminder that tomorrow at 3:00 EST we're going to Altair 4 to celebrate the 60th birthday of this cinematic legend!

Well, folks, the Forbidden Planet Birthday Party was a bundle of fun, and the folks who attended had a great time! If you wanted to come (but couldn't make it for some reason) you missed a wonderful occasion — and we missed you.

We had fun sharing info and observations, and we told a joke or two. In short, it was just what a good movie chat should be.

Don't miss the next one!

Well, heck. I guess just didn't advertise enough. Confused

I thought I'd promoted All Sci-Fi's Friday Live Chat and the special Saturday event pretty aggressively, but apparently I didn't promote them enough.

Next time I'll pull out all the stops and have a few hundred of these things put up across the country.

Would that work? Shocked

Hey, not only do I have this still in my modest collection of Forbidden Planet material, I must have used it for the portrait of Altaira I did in this pencil drawing.

I'd forgotten what reference photo I used. Thanks, Butch!

It looks like an outfit we've seen before — but is burgundy instead of black:

AND the lower portion (below the hips) appears to be translucent!

The crossfire rocks:

A close-up showing the fence posts behind the rocks:

So Grey and Strong didn't cross the fence!

A promo version of Robby:

The dome is too tall and narrow and the components are wrong:

The heart-box is entirely wrong:

The hip joint appears to be correct but there is no apparent 'lower abdomen' segments so it could walk; a single piece knee joint instead of two pieces; the feet are wrong:

I've seen several different Robby costumes purportedly the real thing but with wide variations in details. Just how many of these promo suits were made anyway?

Wow, Butch, you are absolutely right! This is clearly NOT the real Robby.

In addition to the many differences you pointed out, I also noticed that this copy does not have the vertical series of Plexiglas arcs down the sides of his head, nor the two perpendicular Plexiglas pieces on each of his "ears".

This is, of course, the original photo we saw back on page 33 of this thread in the newspaper clipping shown below, but without the background crudely painted out.

I'm even more interested than ever to find out who made this replica, when it was created, and what became of it. I'm amazed that this is the only photo we've found to date of this particular replica!

Although I rarely get any answers from him, I think I'll pose these questions to Bill Malone through Facebook and see if he'll help us out. I also made a post about this on the Classic Horror Film Board. Take a look at it.

I thought for sure we had these two virtual tours of the C-57-D on this thread, but I made a quick search and couldn't find it. But even if I missed them, these are worth repeating.

Enjoy!

My friends and I didn't have the chance to catch this wonderful movie at the theater. It showed up on the late movie in 1962 and, of course, we all loved it. Even in commercial-interrupted black and white.

My friend Steve particularly loved FORBIDDEN PLANET and made that widely known.

Just last year, more than 53 years after we'd first seen FB, I got a lovely Christmas letter from ol' Steve. He's been a busy boy all these years. Got his doctorate in physics or engineering or, I dunno, something else I don't understand. His sons and wife and sons-in-law and himself are almost all college professors. Steve has also written a college-level textbook on, you know, physics or engineering or whatever. He even had some sort of patented device of his installed on the space shuttle.

So, like I said, he's been busy.

The fun part of the letter though was Steve reminiscing about our childhood sci-fi and monster movie watching. He mentioned that he continues to love FORBIDDEN PLANET. He even dazzled me by writing that he still watches FORBIDDEN PLANET "at least once a month."

Steve's wife has, he says, come to accept this.

Now that is a FORBIDDEN PLANET fan writ large.

Well, my goodness gracious, you just gave me the perfect segue into the post I was going to make this morning after finding out that Forbidden Planet is being shown by our good friends at Turner Classic Movies this Sunday, May 22nd, at 4:30 pm EST.

And so I'd like to invite all Forbidden Planet fans to drop by All Sci-Fi's chat room this Sunday at 4:30 EST and have a little fun watching this great movie and chatting with your fellow enthusiast.

At last . . . a good movie we all have, being aired for us, instead of our having to fiddle with all that mess about starting our downloads-or-DVDs at the same time! Rolling Eyes

And if there's anybody who can't make it at that particular time, or if the schedule in their area will place the movie at some time later than 4:30 EST, just DVR the movie and let me know when you want to meet in the chat room.

Please reply to this invitation, either here or with a PM, so I'll know how many folks might be there. Even if you're not sure you can make it, at least tell us you hope to be there. Very Happy

Folks, the C-57-D is on final approach to Altair 4 . . . again!
