I haven't seen much comment on this board about the pulp sci-fi novels of Edger Rice Burroughs.

Before I got into his Tarzan books I got hooked on his Mars/Barsoom series. I then moved to the Carson Napier-Venus series, the David Innes-Pellucidar series and his other stand alones.

I had to check out the mars and Venus series by Otis Adelbert Klein and whatever 30's 40's pulp sci-fi I could find.

I even hunted down old issues of Amazing to read the Shaver Mystery stories.

I know a few movies have been made from ERB's series, but have any of you read his writings?

I admit by today's standards they may seem juvenile, but they had an archaic , almost Victorian feel.

Librivox do have free audiobook versions, read by volunteers, of quite a few Edgar Rice Burroughs books - the preferred reader, I'd say, is Mark Nelson if you get offered a choice!

Excellent! I've downloaded At the Earth's Core, and I look forward to listening to it. The data page just said "Read by: LibriVox Volunteers".

Maybe it identifies the reader in some other spot I didn't notice.

The books do vary on that - one of the John Carter novels had a number of rather different readers taking turns on different chapters, which was slightly off-putting, but hey, it's free! Very Happy
