Heartbreaking news, as somebody has said on Facebook. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, has said "Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love, Carrie's Mother." |

Very sad.
She was a talented, lovely person with both victories and tragedies in her too brief life.
She will be immortal as THE Princess for a very, very long time and she will be remembered for as long as cinema, science fiction, and Star Wars remains in the human psyche.

Many of the celebrities dying prematurely of late from heart attacks seem to have a history of drug abuse in common. _________________ ...or not...

Wayne, you've accurately pointed out the dangerous side of success and fame in Hollywood.
Those people tend to fall victim to the fate described in the quote by Edna St. Vincent Millay, which says —
My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely light. _________________ ____________

R,I,P Debbie Reynolds
It was just reported that Carrie's mom has passed away.
I've been a big fan of hers since TAMMY.
I met her at a meet and greet in the 60's when she was married to a shoe manufacturer Harry Karl, and although it was a brief meeting, she was gorgeous and sparkling.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown was one of her best films.
She will be missed too. |

I own the DVD of Tammy and the Bachelor, and Debbie's hit single of the title theme is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
Another favorite of mine is the gritty drama she made with Tony Curtis in 1960, The Rat Race. It's a neglect gem, and not only is it unavailable on DVD, it's not even shown in PanaVision when TCM airs it!
The trailer below (also in 4:3) will give you a taste of the film's power and true nature. Obviously it is NOT a comedy, as it is often described by mistake when reviewers see Reynolds and Curtis as the stars.
And pay close attention to the forceful title theme by Elmer Bernstein. I saw The Rat Race in 1960, and the music became a lifelong favorite of mine.
Between the sexy title theme and sexy female lead, I was seduced by this movie at the tender age of twelve!
The title theme was actually released as a single by Richard Maltby and his orchestra in 1960 , and I've owned the 45 rpm since it came out, 46 years ago. You can hear it on the Youtube video below the trailer. Give it a listen, folks.

In Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), Commander Adams romanced Debbie Reynolds. But what if Debbie Reynolds had romanced Commander Adams one year earlier in Forbidden Planet (1956)?
I think the lovely Miss Reynolds might have made an excellent Altaira!
How about a cross-over movie: Tammy and the Starship Captain? Instead of Leslie Neilsen's plane crashing the swamps, his starship crashes!
