I'm a fan of the series, and I was mildly amused by the first movie, but this one left me cold. Gruesome paranormal activities don't thrill me, and that was what this second feature film was all about.
I don't even remember much about the plot because it just didn't entertain me, and the critics had the same reaction. Jan Stuart from the Los Angeles Times commented, "The X-Files was a load of malarkey. But it was thoughtful malarkey and compulsively watchable. One could say the same about the first two-thirds of The X-Files: I Want to Believe before it spins out of control and into a delirious plane of awfulness."
The film didn't make enough money to impress the Hollywood executives who ponyed up a $30 million budget and only brought in $68.4 million. By industry standards, that's not a profitable movie.
The bottom line is that if anybody else didn't care for this movie, I'll certainly won't give them an argument.

As a huge fan of the series, I too have to say this movie didn't really impress me any.
It's almost as if the writers were depending on the pure popularity of the series to carry the movie, when in reality, the writing and premise just fell flat.
What a shame as the X Files held promise as a movie franchise...too bad the studios didn't put a little more effort into creating what could have been a great couple of movies. _________________ "You look like a pooped out pinwheel."
