________________________________
I have some unfortunate news about Bulldogtrekker — my good friend Tim Edwards who lives in South Carolina, the man I've watched movies with while chatting on Facebook almost daily for the last six years.
Two weeks ago Tim’s doctor told him he had pancreatic cancer and only had four to eight months to live . . . even with chemotherapy. Naturally this news was devastating to both Tim and his devoted wife, Kay.
Within a few days after receiving this news, Tim’s condition worsened at an alarming rate, and he became so weak and groggy that he was no longer able to share movies and shows with me while chatting in the internet. On the few occasions he tried to talk with me on the phone, it was obvious that he was suffering badly.
Tim’s wife, Kay, has taken a leave-of-absence from her job at a bank to care for her husband. I’ve spoken to Kay on the phone frequently over the last six years, and she’s a wonderful person. Tim is very lucky to have such a loving wife.
Tim retired a few months back from the SC Department of Transportation, where he designed landscaping for the state’s highway system. His Facebook posts are frequently about trees and other vegetation he’s used to beautify his home state.
I told Tim once that he bore an uncanny resemblance to Wilford Brimley. He didn’t seem understand that it was a sincere compliment. (And Kay refused to let him grow a mustache.)
Tim is, of course, the most avid Star Trek fan of any All Sci-Fi member, along with his fondness for beautiful ladies in stunning cosplay outfits. We’ve all enjoyed the two popular threads he started and maintains which are devoted to the lovely ladies of science fiction.
Tim’s other passion is cars, and he’s made numerous posts (both here at All Sci-Fi and on Facebook) which are devoted to this subject.
On the home front, Tim has a cute, hyperactive canine named “Treks” who has devilish eyes and pointed ears.
I think the dog’s name is derived from a character on TOS, but I’m not sure which one.
I do know, however, that the little mute tends to sit on Tim’s remote and interrupt the movies we’re watching together! I can’t count the number of times I’ve told Tim to put his remote on the coffee table and lock the damn dog in the bathroom!
Tim continues to enjoy our posts here on All Sci-Fi, but his current condition makes it difficult for him to make new posts. However, the kind of words of encouragement we can offer him on this thread (and the replies we can add to his own threads) will certainly be appreciated by our good friend Bulldogtrekker during this difficult time.
I’m sure we’ll all have him in our prayers.

BDT,
Your contributions to All Sci-Fi have been a highlight that I've always looked forward to seeing. I'm saddened to hear the news of your condition, but wish you all the best. _________________ ...or not...

Tim, our prayers and good wishes are for you, buddy.
I know a little bit of what you're going through and just have to say....Keep your spirits up. Don't give it up and take each day as it comes.
And remember, you are truly loved. _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |

What terrible news, for such a valued and central member of this community - and so soon after retirement. It just goes to show how fragile our lifespans can be.
But let us celebrate Tim's spirit - he posted this on Facebook to start the New Year:

Well, this is distressing. I've very much enjoyed Tim's posts here. Words are inadequate, but they're basically all we have here.
Well, we also have pictures. So here's a silly one of me taken as I helped wrap post-production on the fanfilm Starship Exeter "The Tressaurian Intersection". Hope it gives you a laugh, Tim!

Bulldogtrekker, I can't say how sorry I am. You're a great chatter and obviously a good friend.
I know you probably have had enough people telling you there's a chance you'll beat this, and to stay positive. I won't sugar coat things, I respect you too much for that, but I will give you a little trivia that might help a tiny bit.
I remember hearing that Patrick Swayze suffered from the same thing and was told that he might not make it long either.
He made it a few years, way past what the doctors thought.
I bet you're as much of a fighter as he was. Best of luck, we're all pulling for you. |

Polly, on behalf of Tim Edwards I'd like to thank you and the other members of All Sci-Fi for your kind remarks.
I spoke to Tim's wife, Kay, on the phone today and I learned that Tim's condition has gotten so bad that Kay is now receiving daily assistance from a professional care giver just to help our friend get through each day.
During our phone conversation, Kay encouraged Tim to speak to me briefly, but he was unable to do so.
He is no longer even seeing his doctors because they've informed Kay there is nothing they can do for him. Kay promised to call me if there was any change in his condition. I'll pass on any information she gives me to the members of All Sci-Fi.
On a positive note, Kay thanked me with great sincerity for my initial message on this thread. She was very moved my expression of friendship towards Tim.
However, she told me she hadn't visited All Sci-Fi in the last few days, so she had not yet read all the kind words from our members. I urged her to do so, and to share them with Tim. She promised she would, and she said that she knew Tim would appreciate the encouraging comments.
I'm sure the comments above will offer comfort and support to both Tim and Kay during this difficult time.

Kay Edwards just called me to say that Tim passed away this morning.
She thanked me again for helping to provide those kind messages from the folks at All Sci-Fi during these last few days of Timothy's life.
I will miss my old friend greatly, and I know that everyone here will mourn his loss as well.
Bud

It seemed appropriate for a fellow Trek fan.
I never knew him other than through his posts, That
is my loss.
Pancreatic cancer is a bad one, I have lost friends to it in
the past. |

I couldn't help noticing that four of the kind members above who posted condolences for the loss of our good friend Bulldogtrekker back in May of 2018 no longer post in All Sci-Fi.
I sincerely hope that those members haven't suffered fates similar to my late friend, Tim Edwards. I sometimes send out emails to all our members — but I always get back a few messages which inform me that certain email addresses are no long valid.
The shrinking list of All Sci-Fi's active members is saddening . . . _________________ ____________
