Stranger Thing's Millie Bobby Brown faces off with another gruesome monster in the first-look at Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
A photo released by Entertainment Weekly unveils Brown as Madison Russell and her scientist mum Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) after they're kidnapped by a shady monster-hunting group to nab some truly strange creatures.
"The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting," director and co-writer Michael Dougherty told EW.
It looks like the ladies will have to directly face down Godzilla, who now wields a new power that the director would only describe as "atomic breath".
"[It's use] takes place at a very key moment and it's a sort of call to arms," Dougherty teased.
The sequel will also feature classic Godzilla franchise monsters King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan, the latter of whom may be redeemed for long-time fans with his reinvention here.
"Rodan's been kind of a sidekick character, but I've always had a soft spot for him" Dougherty hinted. "In a lot of ways he's more powerful than Godzilla. He's like this winged A-bomb. I think we've done him justice."
The filmmaker also confirmed there are "definitely some bread crumbs" alluding to Kong in King of the Monsters, since Godzilla vs. Kong is set to begin production later this year.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which also stars Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler and Charles Dance, opens on May 31, 2019.
