‘Rogue Planets’ Wander the Cosmos Without Stars
Here's the first few paragraphs from an article about Rogue Planets which travel through space all alone, rather than orbiting a star.
________________________________
Astronomers think they’ve just discovered two more rogue planets wandering the Milky Way alone. And according to the new study, which is set for publication in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, the planets are likely just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to free-floating worlds hiding in our galaxy.
If confirmed, the newfound rogue planets — which were discovered as part of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) — will join an elite group of only about a dozen or so starless worlds discovered so far.
They Ain’t Too Faint
Rogue planets, or planets that travel through interstellar space without orbiting a host star, are still a bit of an astronomical novelty. Though the idea of rogue planets has been around for centuries, because they are so dim and cool, it wasn’t until recently that technology had improved to the point where astronomers could actually detect these hidden worlds.
But over the past few decades, astronomers utilizing a phenomenon called gravitational microlensing have become increasingly adept at spotting such solitary worlds.

Okay, so that's the SCIENCE. Now let's add the FICTION!
When I was in high school I had an idea for a story about a rogue planet that came into out solar system. But instead of threatening to collide with Earth, it was headed for the sun . . . and it had inhabitants.
Their planet had been pulled away from their star eons ago by a wandering gas giant, and since they detected it's approach several decades before the disaster, they were able to build domed cities in which they survived while they labored to build a fleet of spaceships to carry them to an inhabitable planet.
The fleet was nearing completion as the planet approached Earth, and the aliens contacted Earth to request permission to migrate here before the planet plunged into the sun.
Unfortunately, many countries objected to these aliens moving to Earth, fearing strange diseases and the possibility that their advanced technology would be used to conquer us.
As the rogue planet races towards the sun, the aliens desperately try to find a way to either convince us or force us to let them migrate to Earth.
Maybe I'll write the story someday. _________________ ____________

Let's see now.....Move over a bit by the fire and let the old professor sit down by the warmth of the flames and give this a bit of thought.....
Seems to remind me of a yarn I heard many years ago....A tale from the days of the opening of the Spaceways.
Seems there was this old style Spaceman.....Rocky by name... that told a story about just such an occurance.
Only he didn't call them "rogue planets".....He called them....GYPSY MOONS!
The gypsy moons found in "Rocky's Odyssey" are back! Only now they are on a collision path with Ophiuchus! Rocky has to help the inhabitants of Posito move to Negato for safety, but Cleolanta decides to put an end to Posito before it endangers her planet!
AND THE INHABITANTS OF THE MOON "KNEW NOTHING!"
Thankfully, ole Rocky had his trusty space ship the Orbit Moon....or was it The Silver Jet...The old professor is getting old....No it was the Orbit Jet or the Silver Moon...
Anyway, it was quite a tale! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child.

By gum, there are some similarities.
The lady in the last picture is Barbara Rush in the outfit she wore in It Came from Outer Space. Here's another shot. The rocket is from About and Costello Go to Mars (I think).
In the picture below, the gun looks familiar, but I can't place it.

RAYGUNS? Boy, back in the day we didn't think of what raygun to use! Us old timers had a bunch to choose from! We just shot what was needed to get the job done!
!
From "Angry cricket" to "Pacifier" , We had the guns that won the Spaceways! _________________ There comes a time, thief, when gold loses its lustre, and the gems cease to sparkle, and the throne room becomes a prison; and all that is left is a father's love for his child. |
