I didn't care for this film, and since it been several years since I've seen it, all I remember about it . . . that I didn't care for this film.
However, the IMDB user's review below (one of many by people who also disliked the movie) refreshed my memory, so I decided to let him present our shared opinion of Prometheus.

It's good to see that Ridley Scott still has the same vision for stylistic sets and atmospheric lighting.Lots of dripping water and eery shadows as one might expect from the old master. The special effects are impressive, the CGI is great, the technology is plausible for the turn of the next century.
__________
But — and I'm afraid it's a big but — the plot is disjointed, the characters two dimensional and the script is, well, not the best.
Far too many things happen which simply make no sense at all, or just don't tally with "what we know already" about the Alien universe.
Far too many plot mechanisms, bits of tech and even shots and scenes are borrowed from other films — Serenity, independence day, The Mummy, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Pitch Black, X- Files. I won't go into detail because I can't do that without using spoilers, but try it yourself. Watch the film and see how many ripped off bits you can spot.
Spectacular, yes. A great film? No. sadly not. _________________ ____________

I remember that some of the criticisms I heard at the time of the movie's release were not "valid" to me because people missed the subtlety of certain scenes (probably talking or looking at their phones). However many of the criticisms were entirely valid.
I thought the movie was "fine", but it needed a better director than Ridley Scott and a FAR better writer than Damon Lindelof (which shouldn't be hard to find). It looked like they had a good idea but then they just made the characters too dumb to live; 'I'm fwightened of the petrified decapitated head on the floor, but HOT DAMN I'm going to pet that slithery alien snake thing and make it my friend!' Come on Ridley, it's your job to change dumb crap like that. _________________ "Have you never wondered what it would be like to walk between the ticks and tocks of Time?" |
