Okay, so that's the Science. Now let's add the Fiction!
________________________________
The article starts like this:
Quote: | International astronomers said Tuesday they have discovered the oldest known star encircled by five Earth-sized planets, signaling that planets formed throughout the history of the universe. |
Wow, this one is easy! The fiction we can add to this science fact is the idea that two-or-more intelligent species have evolved in this one star system on different planets. The dramatic possibilities are abundant!
The most obvious (and therefore the least interesting) is that two species don't get along and fight with each other.
Boooooring . . .
Better idea: There are three separate species, and one of them is a bit ahead of the other two when it comes to be big nasty weapons, so they plan to conquer the other two.
Still boring, I know, but I'm not done yet.
The more advanced race of the three are big and ugly and don't get along with anybody at all. They look like this.
The least advanced of the three species are peaceful and wise and photograph well in the right light , but they're held in low regard by the hostile race.
However, the "middle" species learns that these gentle beings have some awesome abilities that make them powerful allies in the coming conflict.
That's all I've got so far. Anybody want to suggest a few ideas? Or start from scratch and come up something completely different. Have fun with it! _________________ ____________
