Yesterday I discovered this email from Photobucket in response to my three angry complaints about the fact that for almost a week they've had some kind of glitch that caused their system to attach two characters (first it was -1 and later it became _1) to the end of the original file name of the uploaded image.
The crazy thing about this was that the _1 wasn't added at the time the image was uploaded -- it showed up about 24 hours later. Because of this, images that were posted with the original image code (and worked fine) stopped working the next day because of the change in the code!
I sent three emails to Photobucket complaining about this horrible blunder, and yesterday I got the email below from them.

Hi there!
I appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience this caused. We have identified the problem and our engineering team was able to find a solution.
You may need to clear your cache and cookies and then restart your browser.
Here is how to clear your browser's cache and cookies:
http://photobucket.zendesk.com/entries/21118613-clear-your-browser-s-cache-and-cookies
If this does not help, please let me know so I can notify our engineers and continue researching this.
Thank you for your patience, and again, I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience!

That's great news if it true, but I can't help but wonder why I should have to clear my browser's cache and cookies? The problem is clearly confined to Photobucket's system. The images upload fine, and the codes work until the next day when the _1 is added.
Go figure, eh? _________________ ____________

You should only have to clear Photobucket cookies. If you are using Firefox, that's super easy. |

Why? The problem is with their system, not my computer. The characters added to the image codes weren't even added at the time MY computer uploaded them -- that happened 24 hours later!
So, how could my computer be involved in any way?
Besides, CCleaner clears my cookes and cache every time I run it, and I do that almost every day.
What I'd like to know is, did anybody else notice this problem with their own image?
Jstn, didn't you tell me once that your images were hosted on the server that contains Save Surface? Could I do that on the server that now houses All Sci-Fi? If so, dammit I'm gonna do it! _________________ ____________

Because the cookies placed on your machine determine how their software interacts with you. They "recognize" you, and that's why you can stay logged into your account.
When they have software issues, they sometimes make changes to it, which cause glitches in that interaction. Deleting the cookies from that site, and loading new ones often eliminates the problem.
I have taken to allowing temp cookies on some sites which are insistent. As soon as I finish with them, I close my browser and their cookies are deleted, before they can do any significant snooping, particularly FecesBook.
I rarely have to do a complete deletion, so my cookies for All Sci FI and Surface are in place. LOL |

The internet is one of those funny things where we find a way to make ourselves dependent on it.
There are many times I think to myself, "How could I possibly get along without the internet!".
I'm always shopping, looking up facts and entertaining myself online.
But the truth of the matter is, I existed for 40 years with NO internet and I did just fine. The best years of my life were long before the internet. I was perfectly capable of shopping and finding entertainment LONG before I had any concept of a home computer.
It's just one of those things: man existed quite nicely without this technology until little more than a decade and half ago. Now, we've made ourselves dependent on it. |

It's a confounded irony. Computers save so much time, but they take up so much time. _________________ ...or not...

P-Bucket has changed things again! I still have this after uploading:
But not if your cursor goes over the picture you get 3 horizontal bars and a checked circle:
Placing the cursor over 3 horizontal bars brings up an old menu:
Still no problem. BUT place the cursor over the checked circle and you get this:
I have TWO problems with this.
1) I can find no way out of this screen (I actually had to restart my computer TWICE; once to get out, second to get out after taking a screen-dump picture).
2) Apparently P-Bucket now considers your photos to be their photos WITHOUT paying you for them or the use of them OR if you got them from somewhere else on the web paying or acknowledgement of them.
This last is HIGHLY questionable by legal standards. SOMEONE with enough legal clout could theoretically shut down P-Bucket??? because of this!
(I had extensive MRI scans yesterday. I am still sleepy and groggy. I deserve this:
Night-night!) _________________ Common Sense ISN'T Common |
