There isn't another actor who could have pulled off this wonderful live performance, delivering a dramatic reading of the lyrics to Rocket Man — not just with a straight face, but with a powerful performance that gives the song more meaning and more emotional power than it ever had before.

He took it all so seriously that WE end up taking it seriously, both his performance and the song.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Equally impressive is this live performance by Elton John. I love it.

You betcha!

And he was so wonderfully serious and earnest through the whole song, even when he was watching superimposed images of himself as they sang portions of the song.

Brilliant! Laughing

I can see why some who know and worked with him might consider him a Prima Dona. But Prima Donas tend to take themselves very seriously, which I don’t see with Shatner. He is not embarrassed to look silly in front of an audience, since he knows he can do anything and still be cool. Anyone criticizing him just gets Shat on in return.

Naturally I'm just guessin', since I've never even met Shatner, but I think perhaps the problem between him and some of this costars was just a lack of courtesy from time to time.

The definition of prima donna is "a very temperamental person with an inflated view of their own talent or importance."

With that in mind, Shatner might have an inflated opinion of (among other things) his own ability to be comical. This would mean he can be comical as often as he wants to . . . and still be a prima donna! Laughing
