Actually not a bad idea. But it was done by Mr. Heinlein first. He called it a mass converter.

Food waste should be processed into crop fertilizer, not electricity. I'll hold my hopes for 'real' fusion power for this:

"Lockheed says makes breakthrough on fusion energy project" - posted October 15, 2014.

"In a statement, the company, the Pentagon's largest supplier, said it would build and test a compact fusion reactor in less than a year, and build a prototype in five years."

They now have about 8 months remaining time to do their 'proof' test. Smile

That seems reasonable enough, but there's good sense in taking garbage and turning it directly into energy, eliminating the need to transport the garbage to processing centers, break it down into fertilizer, and transport the finished product to the farms.

And the world produces enough garbage to turn some of it directly into energy while turning the rest into fertilizer.
